MSBYeah, I feel like my modded mDAVE is a lost cause. I use it because it is still good, but I feel like I can't get enough money for in on a re-sell to make it worth while. When I calculate the cost of an uber-dac, I don't even factor in the sale of my modded mDAVE. It'll be regulated to a bedroom rig once I decide to buy a new dac. I still hold out hope for the new m-scaler, but who knows when it will be released, and does it even make sense to spend $10K on another DAVE modification? Probably not, sunk costs and the like. I don't really know that DCS is the answer, as many people have went. Maybe Playback Designs, or maybe a Chi-fi solution, who knows... All I know is that DAVE is long in the tooth and an update in needed
The Dave makes magic and it will always make magic. Other things will come along that may make more magic, but there's sure as hell nothing wrong with the Dave.don't hate the Dave... its' great.. .but the zealotry for it is somewhat bizarre. For god sake its a DAC... it will be replaced eventually... that time may be coming as its getting long in the tooth... it had a great run.
Do you mean to run from MScaler? I use the stock cables and a battery to drive the MScaler when I'm getting all audiophile (per Rob's recommendation), but frankly the stock cables and everything on AC to me sounds pretty ridiculously good for almost all applications. Is it worth it to get a Moon Audio Silver Dragon set of double BNC cables for my DAVE? (Or is there is another brand of BNC cables which is not super-expensive or exotic?) I'm still using the stock cables (almost 7 years on now).
Thanks.
Exactly. As PT Barnum famously said, you'll never lose money playing to the lowest common denominator. The true point of the site isn't about audio, it's about being mad that they don't have as much money as other people.Regarding ASR and being embarrassed to have a Dave - that sounds a bit daft to me. The Dave sounds as good as it always has. ASR has a big audience primarily because it makes people feel better about having relatively cheap DACs by telling them that they are just as good as the expensive stuff that us idiots get conned into spending money on… Most people think spending a few hundred on a DAC is crazy so it’s nice for them when they think that the more expensive stuff is a con for gullible people.
right. we dave owners (as far as i've seen) don't think less of anyone who prefers something else, even if much less expensive.I disagree. I’ve not seen anyone in this group deride others for buying cheaper stuff, either through chosen or enforced budget.
Wow, this is so perfectly said, I love it.Exactly. As PT Barnum famously said, you'll never lose money playing to the lowest common denominator. The true point of the site isn't about audio, it's about being mad that they don't have as much money as other people.
I do too, and it trashes all other devices I've heard. Today I heard the Lynn "Organic" DAC, it sounded very pleasant and nice and fussy, but, I don't care about nice and fussy and lovey-dovey sounding, I want speed, transient resolution, snap, sharpness and Impact plus depth, space and imaging, also instruments variation. Rob Watts is the only that delivers that for me.Do you mean to run from MScaler? Well said. I do love the MSB euphonic presentation, but I love accurate representations of the instruments even more.I do too, and it trashes all other devices I've heard. oh stop. Dave, Hugo 2, tt2, mscaler, 2go, mojo, poly, farad upgrade.... have all the chord gear... seem like a hater? just calling it as I see it.. and don't drink the koolaid just because I own gear. not sure why everyone here needs to line up and stroke rob and pledge allegiance... its absurd. building DACs is not a big deal. TBH when I look at Chord I think their best achievement is Hugo 2 + 2go.. I still think this is the world's best DAP after all these years (need to try the N30LE).... and there is way more competition here than higher end DACs@Playtron
Imho RW often discusses from a logic/analytical stance in his best of knowledge and in general terms.
This does not necessarily mean he A/B'ed hardware on every circumstantial setup somewhere in the world. For starters, mains health ain't the same everywhere.
I join the idea you are obsessively sick or simply on a payed mission or combo and that constant smell masks anything sensible note you do have.
It all just begins for many as Chord becomes available for them to buy 2nd hand. They come here say wow, each time Playtron comes bashing once more... clockwork. But I feel its time is near the end....
