Should the hifi filter on Dave be left off when using the mscaler ? I wonder if anyone knows.

I still switch it on for some higher sample rate recordings but 80% of the time off sounds better to me.

srsly..Neither one of my DD hifi 4.4 to 6.3 adapters work. I'm using some janky one I found in the electronics rubbish bin (in chord speak). Does anyway know any good 4.4 to 6.35 adapters that work with this recessed plug on the Dave? Chord please fire or at eliminate the lunch break for a week for whoever thought this was a good idea. Lessons learned for DAVE2.

Also I'm using headphone mode with headphones and its -24DB by default but I can only listen to my audio at like 10% on bandcamp. Is that normal. I'm currently headbanging with my helmet on at about -50DB with my bandcamp stream at max volume. Is this the way or should I turn my bandcamp down and go back to say -30DB.

Its not the neatest look, but you can screw out the headphone ring by pressing 2 fingers in and rotate it counterclockwise. You dont need to take the top off.

Then your adapter should fit.

Just be careful when plugging in and out.

The headphone jack is only mounted on the circuit board and not to the case. I think the detachable ring serves to help to brace the socket against the push from a jack being inserted and also prevents the socket waggling if the jack is struck or pushed from one side. It also helps to prevent the metalwork from being scratched by a poorly aimed jack.

Without the ring, you might accidentally displace the socket by breaking it off the board.

I recently contacted Chord to ask if I can connect the XLR cables and RCA cables. I want to run my stereo amp and my headphone amp from Dave but they’ve advised against it, albeit caveated it by saying if one device is on at the other off it should be ok. Should is a concern on a 10k device.

Who where runs multiple output and how ?

My amp is a Macintosh MA7200 and it does not have a tape out as far as I can see.

I'd be interested to know exactly why 2 fairly high impedance devices (compared to headphones) potentially 'could' cause a problem. I reckon it can't be an excessive load problem? A mutual interference problem then when both ON?

I used to have my DAVE XLR connected to my stereo power amplifier for my speakers and the DAVE RCA connected to the powered subwoofers and run them simultaneously and never had any problems from 2016-2021. Maybe in hindsight DAVE did run hotter than it does now (where I only have the RCA connected to my stereo power amplifier since 2021) But I never had any “issues”.

If you’re using MA7200, my main advice would be to not set DAVE in DAC mode but set it to pre-amp mode and set the volume at -7dB. The reason is that if you look at most of McIntosh’s CD players and DACs, their output is 4V XLR. McIntosh MA7200 and other preamps generally lists their input sensitivity very low. So while the MA7200 may be able to handle DAVE DAC mode’s 3V RCA & 6V XLR, there is a possibility high voltage might clip your McIntosh. So I think you’re better off setting the DAVE output to 2V RCA & 4V XLR first to make sure you’re not clipping the MA7200. Once you get used to the sound, you can go back to DAC mode to see if the DAVE at a higher voltage is clipping the MA7200 or not.

Alternatively, you could e-mail McIntosh and ask them whether a 6V XLR input would clip the MA7200 or not.
