Yeah well it sounded a lot worse than it looks...

Yeah this is basically what I was picturing in my mind.

@resakal I'm very glad your dac's damage isn't this bad! Thanks for posting the photo and keep us informed on your support and repair experience, if you could, please.

Hi all, just got myself a cen. Grand super lock, not listened to it yet since I’m away but did get a chance to set it up and noticed a slight hum coming from the unit.
Is this normal ?
My dsdac 1.0 deluxe and silverfox have the same symptoms. I understand that it comes from the process of transforming electricity inside the product. The degree varies from person to person.

Yeah I think it's not right, every other dac I have had were silent.

Thanks for the info but don't want to open it for warranty reasons. Have contacted the retailer, not heard anything yet, hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.

I solved the problem with ifi's DC filter accessory. It's hard to say for sure that this is a solution. I hope it gets resolved.

Transformer hum is unfortunately an issue even with the best brands. I've experienced it over the years from various gear, including some highly regarded brands and even some killer DIY builds where it either wasn't noticed during assembly or else didn't start acting up until later for whatever reason. I actually believe it is worse with higher quality gear since they tend to use larger transformers which often have more complex windings, leaving more room for issues compared to smaller/simpler options.

To make matters worse, I think sometimes it can depend on the quality (or lack of quality?) of your mains power as well - sometimes a power conditioner can fix it, but not always.

Tightening the bolt holding the transformer in place is usually the first thing to try. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. I would certainly contact your dealer or Cen.Grand directly (or both?) to see what they recommend.

Got a reply from cen. grand today regarding the transformer hum, thought I would post it here. think I might try a DC eliminator.

" I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused to you. please allow me to explain to you.

There may be several reasons that cause your unit to have a slight hum. Firstly pls check the power supply voltage. The AC voltage in some European countries is 240V, and if your unit is in the 220V version, there may be a humming sound. Secondly, there are many DC components in the AC power in your area, which can only be solved by using a DC eliminator.

Cen.grand's transformer design adopts a low voltage regulation scheme, which can bring better performance and sound quality, but it is sensitive to AC power. It is very different from transformers with high voltage regulation rates. In recent years, we have encountered some feedback from users about transformer humming, and the problem has been resolved. We can also replace the transformer with a high voltage regulation rate, which is cheaper. But in order to ensure sound quality, we did not operate in this way. We have increased the cost of after-sales service for this, but the sound quality of our products has always been guaranteed.

I suggest you contact the dealer to confirm if you are using the 220V version of the unit at 240V. Additionally, you can add a DC eliminator. We also have such product for sale. This is an effective way to solve the problem.. "

My unit is a 240V, I also spoke to my distributor who said he tried it before shipping and there was no problem but did mention that the AC voltage in the UK does vary between 230 and 250 that he has measured, anyway apart from the hum, I'm pleased with the what I am hearing.

I received an email saying that the reserved product will be shipping around the 20th. I don't know if anyone received it from China. I received answer that the one I reserved would arrive around the end of August.

DC Blocker? Then the issue was in DC offset, so related to a power line too.
