I have to say that it was interesting reading James @ FiiO's blog about DAP development. Each company seems to be driven by slightly different ideals, and customer desires. Personally, the N6ii/R01 is about as close to an ideal DAP for me, and I can't imagine dropping over $2k on such a set-up, ever. I think that the R8ii and the like are for those people who earn so much that dropping this kind of money isn't a big deal for them, and they are thoroughly enjoying the journey, new toys, etc.

Await your impressions eagerly (not least N8ii vs R01 but also whether the N8ii is the DAP that can finally equal if not rival Hugo 2....)

I like it a lot that Cayin actually listens to the users in their quests to develop the N8ii. One of the fact (very true in my own experiences) listed is along the lines

While the typical desktop tubes headphones users do not like the design of negative feedbacks, the users of Portable players is different that they totally prefer this type of designs!

Unfortunately based on US pricing $3499, the EU pricing probably will end up somewhere around €3699 (best case)... Completely unaffordable for me unless I sell all my other AMPS & DAPs...

It is showing here from a UK site pre-tax for €3350. If that turns out to be the base price across the EU, where I think the average VAT rate is about 20%, then you will be looking at something closer to €4K list price.

That price will be inclusive of UK VAT. So you would get it without the VAT in the EU and then pay your tax locally.....is my understanding.

Sorry, my mistake, I thought it had taken the VAT off already when I put in Ireland but I see the updated price now at check out. Ex Tax is 2333 pounds which would make it around €2800 pre local taxes. Significantly better. Let's hope for not too much mark up on that price by the dealers.
