I'm looking at getting a Holo Spring DAC with my HA-6A, but not sure if I need to get the preamp option? Thoughts from anyone here?

I have a Chord Qutest running at 3V and typically get to about 1-2pm on the amp.

No preamp option necessary, I Run my Denafrips Venus II DAC directly into the HA-6A with plenty of volume

Just received HA-6A again, I can't understand why I sold it last time but it's back to stay and it's like I remember, f amazing

I'm using default valves 12AU7 and KT88 and it is so good sounding that I don't even feel the need to get more tubes >.<

It is an amazing amp.
When I heard it again at Munich High End it was a pleasure to listen to.

I don't need more amps, but in black it's really nice to look at as well

Yea agree, the fact that with this amp I don't have to EQ is really impressive, like the bass and sub-bass is there again very pleasant and right amount, treble is perfect.... I think default valves are perfection for D8KP

Did anyone tried E80CC and came back to 12AU7? Somehow I'm enjoying more EH 12AU7 than Tungsram E80CC plus the Tungsram has noticeable hiss which didn't happen @ HA-3A

I've ordered some Tungsram 12AU7 to try as well but so far I am enjoying HA-6 A LOT

I use the 7062 PQ Holland. No noise and excellent sounding. Good staging, transparency and dynamics. With the old NOS Mullards from the 50s EL34 and Japanese 22DE4 sound is right up there with the 300BMKII with a little different sound but not much. I could live with either amps. I did do a cap change on the amp to Duelund copper cast with silver cap bypass and the other to a Duelund copper cast, 2 and 2.

Thank you sir I will consider that valve, replacing caps is something that escapes from my intentions as I don't want to break anything and I'm amateur at best with the welder :D

Is there a place to get valves at a reasonable price besides eBay?

The better prices are drying up as is the NOS of tubes but having said that, there are still many out there. Find a good source and develop and relationship in purchasing from them. I have bought some tubes on eBay over the years, most of the time with good success. But good to understand the testing and looking at their feedback.

Isnt that a 12AT7 tube? does it work all right with the 6A? the gain on it must be much higher though, I already get to barely turn the volume knob as is, I cant imagine how I will be able to listen with tubes thrice the gain of AU7.

Gain doesn't always go up as much as one might conjecture. Not much difference. If I am on 10 o'clock on the 300BMKII, it is about the same for the same headphones on the HA-6A.

I see, the thing is im not at 10 o'clock on the 6A, more like 7:30/8, so you can see why its a concern for me, when I use my E80CCs on the amp I do have to go down 1 step on my headphones with them for equal volume. Still, its interesting that you can use the 7062 on the amp safely, that opens up other 12AT7 variants for consideration.

Maybe I should just get a pre-amp just for volume control, I really cant stand the 6As volume control anymore.
