I would get a microfiber cloth if you want to get the tubes out quickly so that you can A/B different tubes instead of having to wait for them to cool down.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can this be done while the AMP is still switched on ?

No turn the amp off and wait a few seconds for the tube glow to disappear and then take the tubes out, put in another set and turn the amp back on.

Just make sure you wait at least 10 mins before you switch the amp back on, otherwise you can fry the fuse.

I have never had any issues with just turning off the amp and and quickly replacing some tubes and turning the amp back on.

Thanks for the suggestions !

You've been lucky. I fried a fuse this way in the first two weeks. The distributor changed it under warranty but told me to follow this 10 minute rule.

I only switch out the 12AU7 tubes so not sure if the 10 minute rule only applies for the 6V6 tubes.

Short cycling tube amps (quick on/off timeframes) is generally considered bad practice due to potential voltage spikes. Better to rely on your memopry when comparing tube sets than damage your kilobuck amp.

The Bendix 5992 is often called a “holy grail” 6v6gt variant, and it’s probably the most money you can throw at a pair unless you’re talking about the used set on Reverb. I’ve not used them, but at today’s asking price for that tube, I‘d want some option of a refund if it arrives with a rattle or is overly noisy.

There are some 5992 threads on audiokarma, try a search over there.

I own the Bendix Red Bank 5992. It's a very good tube that in my experience needs to be paired with a slightly warm driver.

I own nearly all of the holy grail 6V6 types with the exception of the Swedish Standard Electric 5S2D.

Check out the The Reference Pentode and Beam Tetrode Thread EL34, KT66, KT77, KT88, EL11, EL12, EL3N, EL35, EL37, 6550, 6L6, EL51, EL39, 4654, 4699, KT63, KT61, 6V6, etc thread here on Head-Fi. You can read about my experience as well as others with the 6V6 tube types.

Yes i found a used pair for around $200, no box whatsover. I would not even think about it at its full price.
Thank you for your suggestion. Im going through the site now

Thank you for your help. I am reading the thread now. Its an interesting read.
I might just pull the trigger on these tubes. At $200 a used pair. It looks like a good deal to experience a holy grail.

I just got my Brimar 6V6GT "Black Beauty" this morning so I will see how they sound later tonight.
Is there any difference in sound between the “Black Beauty” and these

Just joined the HA-3A club and after reading through the thread I think I’d like to try these Brimar first. Still trying to figure out what 12au7 to pair with it. I’m looking at the Sylvania 5814a since it’s not crazy expensive to try out.

I haven't tried the other Brimar variants but the Reflektor 6V6GT and Sylvania 5814a Triple Mica is still my favourite combo.

I actually remember reading your take on that setup. It sounds solid. The reflektors aren’t bad price wise either. I may try both out. I’ll sit with the stock tubes for a bit before swapping so I’ll have a real sense of what it is I’d like sound wise. In my head warm, smooth, wet, detailed with air and good stage sounds ideal to me but it may end up being too much. I’m excited to test the amp out and fall down the tube rabbit hole. I just need to make it a slow fall or my wallet will hate me.
