Cayin C9ii: Dual Nutube Prtable Headphone Amplifier (Gen5 3x Timbre, Anode, NFB, Pre/Line)

Aug 1, 2024 at 11:02 PM Post #16 of 423

When Cayin launched the 30th Anniversary DAP N30LE, one frequently asked question was whether the Gen3 Nutube vacuum tube circuit would be passed down to C9. I am excited to tell you that the wait is over, .... almost over.

Cayin will demo an engineering prototype of C9ii in the Hong Kong High-end Audio & Visual Show (9-11 August 2024) next week. We shall collect feedback from dealers and visitors during the show, and fine-tune the amplifier before we start trial production. We don't have a mass production or official availability date until we finalize the product design. With TOTL products, we always give ample time to our R&D to improve their design before we launch the product. For the same reason, I don't have any specifications or even output power of C9ii right now. Still, the Engineers tell me briefly that increasing the output power is not an agenda they have considered when they develop C9ii.

If you look into the pictures closely, you probably noticed several new "features" in C9ii, I'll try my best to gather more information on these new features and provide a quick explanation after I get my hands on the C9ii engineering sample at the Hong Kong AV Show. Yes, these are the first hand-build engineering sample and I haven't had the chance to try it out myself, so I am looking forward to the C9ii debut as much as you.

#Andykong is this replacing the All-In-One Transportable DAP that may include ability to do tube rolling you mentioned earlier on the N30LE thread? Or simply C9 next iteration?

Thanks

The C9ii and the WIP All-in-One are two independent projects. C9ii is a direct replacement of the original C9 portable amplifier.

I am sure it’s unique, but as I said once I went down the path I did - I knew that it was on me. Not like I can prove anything or get my money back at this point. I didn’t want to send it in and wait weeks just to open it up - I knew I could open it - just needed a lot of hard work lol — and it’s been working fine. I get what you’re saying and I appreciate it. But there’s nothing you nor I can do about it now…

If you have bought it new from a Cayin dealer, I only wish you had returned that particular C9 to your dealer immediately and asked for a replacement. Any legitimate dealer will do that to protect the interests of their customers. I have no idea what went wrong with your unit, but I feel bad that you did not get what you paid for from Cayin products.

While I can't do anything to solve your problem right now, it is my responsibility to remind other users to protect their interests when they run into similar situations. The dealer is ALWAYS your first point of contact for repair, after-sales service, and support, or you can email Cayin at service@cayin.cn (for warranty and repair service) if you can't contact your dealer for whatever reason.

And as customer who has had some technical issues in the past I can confirm that this support structure works flawlessly. Be-it via an official dealer (kudos to NPAudio) or directly with Cayin, I have never experienced other than stellar customer support. I would recommend any Cayin customer to do the same. Just reach out, they are there to help.

(And for avoidance of doubt, I don't work for Cayin and all opinions given are my own :xf_cool:)

I would recommend N7 as a good source for C9 and C9ii. We purposively added the Pre-amp output in N7 to fill the gap, making it one of the very few DAPs that can explore the Pre-amp input and Line level input to these portable amplifiers in a compact form factor.

Most likely, I just checked, the SoCal is scheduled for 28-29 September, we might be able to use a trial production unit instead of an engineering sample in the SoCal if the feedback from the HK AV Show didn't involve a lot of work to accommodate.

@Andykong Will the battery circuit be designed accoring a similar principle to the C9 with its 18650 battery tray? The pictures seem to suggest that ...
