Cat ate K1000 wires - replacement wire suggestions??

This is thread is both very amusing and kind of sad.

In all seriousness and budget allowing, I'd consider getting a proper recabling job done. I know Drew @ Moon Audio does excellent work, but shipping them to him from Japan is a nontrivial process. Maybe you can get some work done a bit more locally?

I know if this happened to me, I'd be irate, but there's no good punishing the sodding cat. It has no idea what it's done. Unlike dogs, cats are not equipped with a sense of guilt.

I just searched for a FAQ on recabling a K-1000 and didn't find anything. I could have sworn I saw something about doing it yourself. Hmmm... I see that Headphile no longer offers it, but you might want to drop them a line and see if they can give you a few pointers on it. It's supposedly a little tricky having to solder a few delicate parts, but it can be done.

As for the cat, I've got one, too. But the K-1000 comes in a very nice wooden box that is cat-proof.

The box, unfortunately, is not small child-proof. So the K-1000s stay in the box and out of reach whenever said threats are at the house.

And don't beat up on cats. Most of you are joking, but they're wonderful, affectionate pets. After having one for awhile, you'll learn what proves interesting to them and can plan accordingly. They're worth it.

I had no idea members here had such strong feelings about cats

. Truth be known, it's my fault [as some of you have pointed out]. This particular beast had torn apart a grounding wire from turntable to phono preamp in months' past--why it never occurred to me that he'd eventually get around to the headphones is a bit of a mystery. A pain in the butt, but I'll have to box them between listening sessions.

Oh. As an aside, later that same day, said cat pissed in the bag containing my wife's dry cleaning. I love the guy--I really do. Did not much love him yesterday, though.

cats are smart agile creatures that are amazingly interesting, and at times more humerous and affectionate than people may care to realize..very engaging affectionate little fur balls..

Their attention and companionship is on an earned basis similar to human relationships post first impressions. Feline's cognitive abilities and intelligence is harder to understand and compare to that of other animals, and is more difficult to gage/test as well..they are darn smart and pretty flipping entertaining IMHO.

Cat meat is a fine delicacy. It has an amazingly unique texture that is both interesting and satisfying. At times, one can eat a whole meal of cat and suddenly realize one has had too much to eat! A slow cooked feline is one of life's pleasures that no one should miss.

It is true, cats may not be the most glamorous, exotic, or tastiest of meats, however, they truely combine a unique blend of great qualities that should be prevalent in all meat. Truely, they are the AKG K701s of meat!

Hey ron, hisashiburi!

Man, that sucks re: your K 1000 situation. Heh, definitely time for a recable.

You've cursed me man, the K 1000 is one of my favorite headphones now. I just got a new amp for it too. Heh, haven't quite progressed to a Cary yet though.

Good luck. Lemmie know if you need anything from the States.

Best,

-Jason
