Overall, blah
Based on it being simply a Bond movie, Alot better then the past three or four, and I do like Daniel Craig.

Sometimes i just feel action movies all of a sudden fall back 10 years, even when they have the new special effects, and all that fun stuff. I guess its because you get spoiled with other certain movies that are great, and then when the typical one comes out, you hope for greater results, yet you start to feel like "Didn't they just do this"?

We had all the available Grandkids over for pizza last night along with our bunch, and as soon as the pizza showed up at the door the movie was started.

Yeah; that was dumb.

I mostly "heard" most of the sound, which was kinda mediocre from an action flick surround sound production, but the horns at the end credits had some reasonably good blare and bite.

We're gonna have to watch it again, without all the kids.....or pizza.

Ok; WITH the pizza, but not so darned many kids!!

You watched that movie with kids? Yikes, how did the castration scene mix with the pizza?

Yeah, a remote sure comes in handy when there's kids around. I had to quickly freeze frame the lovemaking scene when my four year old walking in. "Dad, why are they sleeping on the floor?" Hehehe.

After watching it a second time on DVD (since I liked it the first time and thought it merited a rental from Blockbuster), I thought Craig did a great job as the new 007. Yes, he doesn't have the charismatic, sophisticated swagger of the earlier Bonds, but he does have the cold, sharp attitude that really defines the secret agent appeal, something I think that Timothy Dalton tried to embody. Sure, it's a very modern remake of the original, but I think the newness is more fresh and appealing, especially since it's targeted for a wider audience (at least there's the Aston Martin DB5 that springs up the image of Connery in Goldfinger). The chemistry between Craig and Green is dull, but I suppose they couldn't find a better match with looks and talent. Dench is great as Bond's superior. She kind of adds that harsh maternal quality.

IMO the lack of the "charismatic, sophisticated swagger" and the presence of a "cold sharp attitude" is the point of the movie, and Daniel Craig's blunt ferocity for the first two-thirds of the movie is exactly why this is one of the best films of the year. This is a newly-assigned 007, one who's still green, who's still more of a hard-guy thug, who only has two professional kills under his belt. "James Bond" the legend is under construction, a work in progress over the course of the film. The other actors who played 007, even Sean Connery, all gave us stagnant performances. They portrayed a man who was a flat 2-D caricature, who never really had any humanity to him—never grew and never changed. Daniel Craig's Bond is changing & in motion, moving towards becoming his iconic self. It blew me away.

That is why the actual 007 theme music is only hinted at, progressively more and more, over the course of the movie. The very first time the soundtrack hints at the 007 theme is almost halfway through the movie... when he first puts on the trademark tuxedo and examines himself in a mirror. Slowly, slowly, he's becoming the guy we know as "Bond"

And so it's only at the end where he finally puts on a suit and charismatically waylays Mr. White to claim Britain's money when he FINALLY introduces himself as: "Bond. James Bond." And then, finally, the 007 theme hits full-on for the first time in the entire movie. I got chills.

This is the best Bond film ever made.

But of course I wanted more... I do want a film where the 007 theme is actually used in action scenes; I want to see what Daniel Craig's Bond has become... It felt like a cliffhanger ending even though it wasn't.

You know, as someone who has been a bond fan for probably 40 years, let me watch it again. And I suspect you may be right. (Although I'll still defend Goldfinger as a definitive Bond film).

Yeah; Goldfinger" was the first one I saw back in 64 or 5, and it set the tone for all to follow since then. We have the new one on DVD but have only seen it once. We'll have to give it another shot when the kids go back to school so we can watch it more closely. The thing to watch for would be just how many Bond movies will be made with Craig and accepted by the public over the next few years.

It's gonna be fun to watch!

This is a great movie; already a classic. Craig is the best Bond since Connery, hands down. He and Connery are probably the only ones who took the time to read Fitzroy Maclean's "Eastern Approaches". Much greater physicality, complexity, and depth. How could you possibley get more action and plot twists into any movie? We can only hope this is but the first in a complete series remake of the original Fleming stories.

it was an awesome movie

loved how he goes back and forth from sensitive guy to ruthless hitman, esp in the end when he totals that guy and goes "names bond, james bond" and just ruined that guy's **** for him haha. what a bad ass.

Daniel Craig takes the Bond series to a whole new level and makes it what it should have always been. Which is what I believe Ian Flemming had in mind when he wrote his novels. In fact I think he supersedes Sean Connery in the role of Bond, although Connery had a certain charm, even though the Bond francise didn't.

At long last I now find myself a James Bond fan, eagerly awaiting the next installment. I just hope they don't revert back to all that silly nonsense of the past.
