casino royale voted the best remake ever on this IMDB entry

second came oceans eleven

thirdly, peter jacksons king kong.

i dont disagree, i havent thought about it to be honest, i would certainly put the jeremy irons version of lolita up there as a great remake - but thats never going to be a headline grabbing remake is it!

would your votes go a different way to the survey?

p.s. i would like to have seen the original results from the lovefilm.com website but couldnt find it

King Kong was an astonishingly crap film, but the original is so dated that it's much better by simple default.

Oceans 11 was ^N better than the sequels. I confess I have not seen the original.

Casino Royale is in my opinion one of the top 3 or 4 Bond films.

I didn't like Casino Royale. It's a generic action film with "James Bond" slapped on the cover to get it more cash. Not at all a true Bond movie IMO.

wow, fair enough.

that statement personally reminds me more of quantum of solace than royale.

I didn't like it as well. Thought it was bland. They tried to make it gritty, which felt forced. Plus Le Chiffr is one of the lamest Bond villians I can think of. IMO obviously.

I won't even bother commenting about PJ's King Kong...

Just wondering MCC if you've read any of the books by Fleming. You'll be hard pressed to note any large difference between craigs bond and Flemings bond. I'm happy where finnaly getting back to the roots of bond (after a divergence from it begining with goldfinger).

Anyway, of the top of my head King Kong and the Departed would be mine (I don't really consider Casino Royale to be a re-make, rather just another film based on the same book, as the source material they where using for the film wasn' the old film, rather it was the book). I thoguht all three of these films where brilliant and think they where everything they promised to be and more (at least for me).

agreed. this new guy is NOT James Bond. He doesnt look, act or talk the part.

Casino Royale (and quantam of solace for that matter) may very well be a good action movie, but its a lousy Bond movie.

Do you base bond on the movies or on the books (or both). As it pretty much nails the bond form the books, in appeareance, how he acts and talks.

If the poll's title included "in the last ten years", it might be barely valid, but "EVER". Where was this poll originally placed? 4chan, gamespot, hannahmontanazone.com?

Scarface , The Magnificent Seven, and probably dozens more I can't think of yet. Where are they?

King Kong?????? That had to be an editor's joke.

I wasn't a huge fan of either movie, but I like Craig. Saw him previously in Layer Cake, and Brosnan always seemed too much of a pretty boy. I could never see him as a trained killer/agent.

So what you're saying is that the bond in the books is a **** with no class or charm?

Im basing my opinion off the movies. I havent read the books. if what you say is accurate, than every previous bond movie missed the books significantly.

I think Casino Royal revived the Bond films. I guess Quantum kind of went back to the old run around and do impossible things (shallow) action garbage that has derailed the Bond films prior to Casino.

I liked it because the new Bond actually has muscle and isn't a pencil neck like Brosnan or an old out of shape dude like Roger Moore. Of course Sean will always be Bond, but this guy is a close second.

I also liked the fact that Casino made Bond seem somewhat human compared to most of the recent Bond movies where it almost became cartoonish.

They would do well to make the future Bond movies more real and intriguing with depth. But we are talking about Hollywood, so I'm not holding my breath.

Best remake ever? Maybe, I can't think of another one that's better off the top of my head.

In the books he has class, but underneath the veneer of civility he's pretty much a killer. He just turns on the charm when he needs it - off at all other times.

The previous movies (since Goldfinger, as mentioned) have missed the books significantly.
