Is there something thats worthwhile to pursue? I love headphones and hi-fi audio, but are there any careers that are decently payed and are just worthwhile? My first year of high school is wrapping up, so I still got 3 years to pursue a certain university, if that could help me on my way? Thanks for your input guys.

Never make your hobby your job is a piece of advice thats often been given to me.

Realistically? I don't think that theres a whole lot to go for unless you degree up in electronics and start an amp building (or other gear) business. Or go into engineering or design and hope to get a job with one of the companies.

Recording engineer is a really interesting job, but doesn't pay much.
You could also become an electronics engineer and design headphones/amps, but I don't think it's a highly demanded job (designing headphones/amps, I mean).

The audio field seems to be shrinking - I would suspect that careers would follow the same path.

However, it may be a good idea to study engineering. Take the highest math classes you can, physics, and electronics, if your school offers it. Study to be an EE in college, and you would be in good shape for a nice day job and could design amps and circuits at night. There are a few who run niche/specialist audio businesses out of their garage while keeping a regular job. You'd have all the security and could work on your passion, too.

I'm disagree with Duggeh.
Classical example -> Bill Gates. He was a Computer geek and see his fortune now!!
Hobby/Passion + Brain + Hard-work + bit of luck = $$ + Job Satisfaction

One of my friend is working as an acoustic engineer.
The work involved mostly for building construction by choosing right material for wall and building structure to ensure that the noise is within acceptable level.

If you are working for main constructing company, the pay is darn good!!

Mind you that this job is to "reduce or isolate noise/sound", opposite of what audio equipment is intended to do

Anyway, soon all theyll be selling is Ipods.
Everyone that sees any of my audio equipment thinks im insane, and i dont even have anything truly esoteric.

There will be 128 mp3's downloaded on Itunes, and no CD sales or any other media like that. No CDs = no CD players.
I think high end is doomed and on the decline since the ipod and since people are happy with plastic boom boxes from Walmart.

You forgot to add in the utterly totally ruthless backstabbing double-crossing opportunistic manipulative business practice.
