Nope, you have to amp the K-501. It's a current pig just like the K-1000. But if you amp it properly, it's one of the best there is. K-701 soundstage is OK, but it doesn't top the other two.

Does anyone from Team Electrostatic want to jump in with soundstage comments? I don't know much about them, but I'm sure someone here knows.

ATH-AD2000 has a superbly defined soundstage that goes deep as well as it goes wide. I've read that the other AD series have a similar soundstage.

heh unamped electrostats would be interesting, maybe this pin goes in this hole and that pin goes in that one

i particularly found the AD700 audio technicas has great soundstage and if they're any indication the rest are pretty good too, of the AKGs i've only heard the K701s and stock K340 and the K701 takes the cake

K501s are supposed to be even airier but I haven't had a chance just yet

OP still hasn't given us a budget. With his T-Amp, couldn't he get a pair of K1000 and call it a day?
