I've only been on this site for the past year and live in South Carolina, having moved from NYC years ago. I wasn't aware of CamJan NYC last year. Is this always held in midtown Manhattan? I'd like to plan for next year and go to it.

What an opportunity to sample equipment I would never be able to hear near home. I am looking forward to it!

Both 2017 and 2018 were in Feb so I'm assuming similar timing for 2019

For those of you who listened to the Sennheiser HD820, do you think that $2399 is a good value for the sound quality? I understand the R&D cost factor but it’s such a big increase from the HD800S. The closed aspect is appealing.

Simply put: No.

The march towards four or five thousand model headphones is akin to the price of gas - maybe there is some market demand at the moment, but manufacturers will continue to push the pricing envelope to see how much they can charge/profit, until such a time that people are unwilling to pay those prices. There isn't anything wrong with this, but the value proposition quickly erodes past about fifteen hundred dollars for most headphones. That's about where the HD820's belong.

I agree with your thoughts. I also think the elevated pricing is short sighted in that many more people would buy at around $1500 than $2400 and the total profit would likely be larger for Sennheiser. They should look at Mr. Speakers Aeon as a model.

The only way this worrying trend will ever halt or even reverse is if "we" the buying public stop paying these silly prices for TOTL headphones and that my friend will never happen IMHO.

You see for better or for worse we are all on a quest for personal audio nirvana my friend and once you start on this journey temptation lies around every corner.

There is definitely a market for Hi-Fi components for people for whom money is no object (e.g. https://www.wilsonaudio.com/products/wamm which comes in north of $600K). My theory is that the growing popularity of headphones is causing manufacturers who can to capitalize on their reputations by creating products that are tailored for that market. Sennheiser certainly has the reputation to do this.

Teh problem is those WAMM speakers are not musical, lol. They lack the fine micro and macro detail that a speaker needs to convey the emotions of a song. They smoothed out the top end with that fabric tweeter that they have gone to now that the son took over, but it's still a larger boom boom, sizzle sizzle type of speaker. Convey's an unrealistic and huge stage, but other than huge dynamics, I'll take a VAndestseen (which is what I own or a Tidal or a Rockport over these or Magico's any day of the week). Sorry, not trying to derail.
