To any 'insider' to the goings on behind the scenes of CanJam planning .... can anyone provide a few words about why one of the oldest players and fairly well known names in headphones (and phono cartridges), Grado, who are famously located just the next borough over, across the east river from where CanJam takes place, never attends this show?
Well that would be a welcome first. I 'think' that was the case last year too. But I don't recall there being an official Grado presence and it was Audio46 that brought some Grados to represent; but don't hold me to it. I'm going to take a quick look at the 2024 announcement thread just to make sure I'm not imagining like an AI chatbot, and convincingly saying something that's flatly false.
edit: update: I am an AI chatbot! lol By that meaning, No, Grado wasn't in the exhibitor list last year. And Thank you Alex and Mattias for pointing out my oversight in this year's exhibitor list.
I think I recall it being covered in this year's preview thread. edit: ah, found it! yes, there it is at the 47:29 timecode.
Just rewatched that segment. I skipped auditioning the CRBN (1) every year it was shown. Give what was said in the video, I'm not missing head-time this year! I'd been planning to get an electrostatic headphone [already have electrostatic speakers] but never acted due to wanting more bass 'weight'. Seems this may be the electrostat that has that. Looking forward to audition it.
As mentioned previously in this thread, we will have a B&K 5128-C for live show floor measurements of all your favourite gear. Bring as many headphones as you want measured and @listenerwww , @Resolve @MadEconomist , @GoldenSound and DMS will be there to measure and chat!
Will you have an electrostatic amp there? I was thinking of bringing my DCA Corina headphones because there are not a lot of measurements of them out there.
I had originally wanted to go (I'm in DC so the drive there and back is doable in one day), but work travels the week leading up to it made it too difficult.
I missed CanJam NYC last year due to work travel (which for me is takes up one week per month but not on a fixed schedule), but this year my calendar was clear. Also, just in case you weren't aware, we have a decent Head-Fi community in the DC area (though mostly in NoVA I think) and usually there are 1 or 2 meets each year. We haven't had one since last June, but after CanJam we could probably have one. It's usually held in Fairfax.
If you don't already, check out Capital Audiofest, out in Rockville. It happens every November and there are quite a few headphones available every year, with HeadAmp, Audeze, and LTA being regular exhibitors and other brands (like Sennheiser and Warwick last year) coming occasionally. I'm actually most keen on seeing the differences in "vibe" between CanJam and CAF; CAF is more of a 2-channel show like AXPONA, which means fewer headphones (though more than I would have expected) and no IEMs, but also less competition for headphones as the vast majority of people are there for the speakers.
Just finished my volunteer hours help set up the ballroom tables, putting together signage, and sorting T-shirts. And that is only the things I was doing. It is quite a production and the work continued when I left. My point is that beyond my small contribution, it takes a lot of people and moving parts to get this together. It is fun meeting new people and reconnecting w/several from last year. It is going to be a great show!
Will anyone have a 4.4mm female to 2.2mm male adapter in their bag of tricks that I could maybe borrow for 10 or 15 minutes?
Just realized I don't have this particular adapter I'll need for my friend to try out one of my personal dac-amps I want him to try. I just don't know what day or time it will be just yet (he hasn't locked down his schedule yet). I won't need to leave your presence either, whichever side of a booth or table you'll be at (as an attendee or vendor). Much thanks if so.
'Twas the night before CanJam, and all through the hall
Not a headphone was stirring, nor in-ear at all.
With cables wrapped neatly in cases so snug,
"We can't wait for CanJam," Head-Fi'ers unplugged.
Eh, not my best work. Anyways, as we all unplug for the night and get ready for tomorrow's festivities, it's time to get the CanJam New York Impressions Thread underway. Many of you know the drill, but for those of you new to CanJam, click here as we prepare for tomorrow's magic to begin.
