Outstanding Virtuoso Violins, Piano, Voices :

Anne-Sophie Mutter playing Sarasate: Carmen Fantasy

Gene Harris playing the Steinway Grand Piano on: Listen Here!    Superb Jazz

Joshua Bell playing his Strad. Violin : Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E Minor Op. 64

Julia Fischer playing Sarasate: Spanische Tanze, Op 26 - Vito

Martha Argerich playing Concerto for 2 Pianos and Orchestra in D minor

Almost anything by the 5 Browns playing their Stienway Grand Pianos

Plus something with plenty of well recorded Cymbals, I don't yet have anything in this area.

Reference Recordings ( K.Johnson)  Berlioz Symphony Fantastique ,  March to the Scaffolds in particular.

These are breath taking recordings that will stretch any System to it's limits and beyond, all are exemplary live performances that defy accurate electronic replications.

These violins mentioned above are all "tight" mic'ed capturing the near infinite detail of the famous Strads these Artists are performing with.
Sennheiser discovered a method to "mic" and record the intricate harmonics of the Steinway Grands, the above recordings feature this technique.

Tony in Michigan

ps.  Lang Lang playing Beethoven, Rachmaninov,Tchaikovsky,Mendelssohn all MUST be included.  Lang Lang is now imerging as our Finest Piano Virtuoso, his subtlety and phraising raise him above ecstasy levels expected from our formost performers, 5 Stars !

ps. 2   Yundi Li playing Franz Liszt :  Piano Sonata in B Minor S178

Tegan and Sara - Knife Going In

Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Talib Kweli - Gutter Rainbows

Jack White - Lazaretto -or- Black Bat Licorice

Duke Ellington and John Coltrane - Take the Coltrane

Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Power of Equality

Danny Elfman - Pretty much anything from Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack

These selections represent a variety of different genres and different levels of recording quality, with regards to dynamic range, equalization and other aspects of mixing and mastering. A couple of these are marginal recordings, though not terrible. A couple are good, and most of the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack is pretty great, so I feel that these represent at least a small sample of good test tracks to determine how headphones handle different material.

I have two songs that I must try on all audio systems.  If both songs move me emotionally and physically (out of my seat) something is being done RIGHT!
