A few of my favorite test tracks:

King Curtis, "Memphis Soul Stew"
Duke Ellington Orchestra and Count Basie Orchestra, "Jumpin' At the Woodside" (from First Time: The Duke Meets the Count)
Mumford & Sons with Paul Simon and Jerry Douglas, "The Boxer"
Infected Mushroom, "Dancing with Kadafi"

I'd love to hear the magic that the HE1000s would do on those beauties.

It seems like the samples available at canjam were mostly jazz, so it would be nice to have something different from that. Rather than people's favorite songs, it would be a good idea to use well-mastered tracks within a particular genre that would give fans of that genre an idea of how the headphones perform.

For rock, I've found that Pearl Jam's Yellow Ledbetter is particularly good for gauging soundstage. While not usually the type of music I gravitate towards, Tool's Lateralus album seems to get universal acclaim for its mastering, and I've found that the title track is an excellent test for headphones.

For EDM, Deadmau5's One Trick Pony is a pretty good test of bass impact. I use Digitalism's Circles to test detail. I'm not sure what people more knowledgeable about recording admire within EDM. Maybe @LFF can weigh in?

The first time I heard a HFM phone was the HE-500, and the first album I played was Eric Clapton Unplugged.

Love at first listen.

That would definitely be my go-to if giving the HE-1000s a shot.

Unworkable.
Just saying like "I only want to here music that was recorded on an analogue mixing table at "Sound City" L.A".
Don't sweat the small stuff it's meant to be an enjoyable playlist
