Going Beyond "One Number to Rule Them” - Measurements in Perspective
Saturday, November 11, 2023

2:00p to 3:00p
Schiit Audio's history with measurements includes being called “lazy, incompetent engineers,” buying not one but 11 audio analyzers, and then designing both spectacularly measuring gear and stuff that’s “downright scary bad.” Are we crazy? Or is it possible that a single, reductive number just can’t reflect actual listening levels, transient response, or the distortion of transducers. So how do we measure more, measure better, actually measure effectively, and then make that something meaningful to give us genuine perspectives on how things sound? Let’s find some answers.
SPEAKER: Jason Stoddard, Founder, Schiit Audio

DAC Architectures: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Saturday, November 11, 2023

3:00p to 4:00p
Although digital audio is ubiquitous these days, finding an optimal DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) remains a complicated, and often confusing, task. Join Rob Watts, Digital Design Consultant for Chord Electronics, as he explores the various DAC architectures commonly employed today, and breaks down the strengths and weaknesses of each. Finally, personal preferences aside, learn the objective criteria by which all digital-to-analog conversion methods should be judged for high fidelity audio applications.
SPEAKER: Rob Watts, Digital Design Consultant, Chord Electronics

How Interpolation Filters and Transients Crucially Affect Sound Quality
Saturday, November 11, 2023

4:00p to 5:00p
Join us for an invaluable hour of insight into how digital interpolation filters work. This seminar will cover: understanding the importance of interpolation filtering and transients; realizing just how much time domain performance can dictate fidelity and realism, and much more. If you didn’t understand any of that, and you are currently pursuing an endgame rig with a digital source, then this is one seminar you won’t want to miss.
SPEAKER: Rob Watts, Digital Design Consultant, Chord Electronics

It’s About Time
Sunday, November 12, 2023

2:00p to 3:00p
Advancements in semiconductor materials and MEMS fabrication techniques have resulted in a new class of transducer, called Piezo-MEMS. Piezo-MEMS μSpeakers have unique attributes and beneficial performance improvements over traditional inductive coil-based speakers. One notable new capability is time-domain resolution. Absolute and relative phase will be discussed in this technical primer, along with Piezo-MEMS theory of operation, design, fabrication, packaging, and testing. This presentation will be informative to audiophile consumers and product designers alike. Listening demos of xMEMS latest Audiophile IEMs will be provided.
SPEAKER: Michael Ricci, Sr. Director of Electroacoustic Engineering, xMEMS Labs, Inc.

looking forward to attending some of these seminars.
IMO, the times listed for an event should be shown in the timezone of the physical location where they're being held, in this case CST, not PST.

Awesome! I'm also really excited that it's in Dallas--I am too busy to fly out to the other canjams, but having one happen essentially in my backyard makes it super easy to spend a day learning more about the hobby, trying new things, meeting new people, etc. I already plan on meeting up with a buddy from an audio discord I'm in, so it should be a good time. I hope you enjoy CanJam as much as I am hoping to!

For anybody that is new to CanJam, don't forget to bring gear to share! :relaxed:

By far, one of the best parts of any CanJam are the ad hoc meets that spring up at breakfast/lunch/dinner/etc. You get to hear gear that may not be at the show, and most importantly, make new friends! In fact, it might not be the worst idea for y'all to post lists of gear that you're willing to bring, for others to look through and make requests for. @trellus @texx2818 @Nightrise11 @aaf evo @SymphonicTXN7 @RenoGu @LegionofDoom @iron2k @acohen001 @bunnygal23 @misterpumpy
