Has anybody examined the HD558 and HD598 to see if they have the same relationship as the HD555 and HD595, with the same drivers but a piece of foam added on the lower one? So, can you modify the 558 to be like the 598? Has anyone done this?

Sure, but isn't the housing different this time? I think you can do the mod, but it still won't make the HD558 the same as the HD598. The housing's different unlike the HD555 & HD595.
