Thanks for suggestion but monoprices aren't available in Poland :frowning2:

Someone wrote that PL11 distorts on loud volumes. On rockbox I rarely use (if ever?) more than -10 or -8 dB. Usually I try to listen at -20 to -16 dB.
And unfortunately, the Soundmagic packaging was changed and the richness of tips were lost. :frowning2:

Those volumes are pretty loud. I would stay away from PL11.

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. I am planning to buy an entry level IEM. Maximum 70-75 USD, preferably 50-60. I have been looking mainly on Amazon.

My preferences:
- mainly rock, metal, instrumental rock, some acoustic, some dubstep
- I need a mic and at least one button to answer calls (I have a Samsung Galaxy S3)
- I don't need a lot of bass, my only experience is with Sennheiser CX300-II, which IMO had a little too much bass (but as far as I know it is a bass enhanced IEM)
- right now I use the stock headset for the S3 (Samsung EPH64) I like them, but I would want something richer as this sounds a bit flat

I have done some research, and narrowed my list to these (but any suggestions are welcome, as I am new to the world of IEM-s)
- Brainwavz M5 with mic (http://amzn.com/B009A6GHDY)
- Audiofly AF56 with mic (http://amzn.com/B00855JPV2)
- MEElectronic A161p  (http://amzn.com/B0083E5GUE) ( a bit too expensive :frowning2: )
- Beyerdynamic MMX101iE (http://amzn.com/B005AUTSOY)

Thank you in advance,
Daniel

If you find the S3 stock iems flat, you should be looking for totally V shaped sound. From my experience, EPH64 are slightly V shaped, and is rather far from flat. By rich, do you mean the vocals or the bass? EPH64 are not rich in vocals, but rich in bass. I think I can only help you if you confirm this.

Thanks! But these SoundMagic PL50 costs much more than my budget (slightly more than 2x of it :frowning2: around 60$ - 200 PLN)) You've probably meant the Sonorus PL50 which could be a counterfeit of it or so. Those Denons I've planned from the start (the cool-looking silver edition with japanese text on the box) and Brainwavz Beta with Comply tips are on my list (89 PLN, nearly 30$).

My whole list (maybe it will be helpful for You)
All prices in $ (assuming that 1 $ = 3 PLN, which is more-or-less same as in reality)

All available (currently) on Allegro IEMs: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=pl&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=pl&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fallegro.pl%2Fsluchawki-dokanalowe-66889%3Forder%3Dd%26string%3D%26price_to%3D100%26price_enabled%3D1%26buyNew%3D1%26offerTypeBuyNow%3D1 (I've set the type to In-Ears, price from 20 to 100 PLN (~6-33 $), only new). Hope that this link would work for You. 10 pages, on first one there are some promoted offers (Like Creative EP-630 for 2-3$ - surely a counterfeits).

Maybe it will be helpful. Some of tracks / albums form my favourite artists. A lot of listening.

As with warren, I have not hear most of the iems you list. However, Sony EX10 are famous on head-fi, and I heard the Cresyn Axe and like it quiet a bit.

to be honest, i am not familiar with V or flat. I only meant that it sounds a bit cheap/dull sometimes, but sounds pretty good in some situations.
I want the guitar and the instruments to sound good, but vocal and bass are important as well, i just don't like too much bass( i have one cheap skullcandy (JIBS I think) that has way too much bass....) I think I want something all around. I don't know if I can get something noticeably better for that price. Would meelectronic's a161p be worth spending twice as much as for brainwavz m5? Or should I stick to the middle (as far as price is concerned)?

Are they TOO bassy...Im fine with a lil extra bass...but is the effect overwhelming?? Then I will switch to the standard ones...

They are bassy, but not too bassy like beats. If you don't like extra bass go with standard ones.

I read good things about the audiofly ones. I haven't heard either meelectronics or brainwavz. Sorry. warren might be able to help you out.

Kim...by "extra bass" is it like it over-powers the mids?? If not...Im fine with it...Im slightly hesitant about the standard ones as I read a lot about the defective cables / conection issues...

if its like beats means its rejected...Thanks its not :D

It doesn't go quiet far as over-powering mids. It could if you listen to really bass heavy music, but other wise, it's fine. I've had the standard one for 6 month, but there wasn't any cable or connection issue. You just have to clean the connectors once a month, and you are set. I just mentioned the beats because it's one of the headphones with most bass and they cover up the mids.

Not always into really bass heavy music...might listen some tracks once in a while...so I think it should not be a problem :)

Actually I read the whole 70 odd pages of the SE215 impressions thread and found a lot of guys with problems...might be a bad batch also...there were guys who got defective piece first and also defective replacements...defective not out-of-the-box...but in very less time...hence so much of skepticism from my end :D
