Has anyone of you experiment with different DACs? Where there any differences regarding the sound?
Burson rate the Funk as 45W into 4ohms so based on the above specs the Burson will easily power your Dali'sHello.
How do you think:
- will Burson's Playmate 2 be a good source for Funk;
- does Funk have enough power for Dali's Opticon 1/2 MK2 (shelf speakers);
?
Thank you.
Opticon 1 specs:
Sensitivity (2,83 V/1 m) [dB]: 86
Nominal Impedance [ohms]: 4
Maximum SPL [dB]: 105
Recommended Amplifier Power [W]: 25 - 100
Dimensions With Base (HxWxD) [mm]: 261 x 152 x 231
Opticon 2 specs:
Sensitivity (2,83 V/1 m) [dB]: 86.5
Nominal Impedance [ohms]: 4
Maximum SPL [dB]: 107
Recommended Amplifier Power [W]: 30 - 150
Dimensions With Base (HxWxD) [mm]: 351 x 195 x 297
I currently own the Funk...have owned the NR22 and NR1504. I did not like the 1504...it had this coloration that made all music sound like it was recorded in the same studio. USB was worse than optical. The NR22 is pretty good for a desk setup at its price, but the bass is weak and sound is a bit 2D. Very inoffensive and a bit rolled off sounding...lacking in bite and energy. The headphone section was just okay, not at the level of liquid spark.
The funk? It's a ****ing unicorn (at its price) with the vivid op amp. Not much to say about it because it does everything right...actually there is a turn off thump but it can be avoided by switching to headphone input and then waiting five to ten seconds for caps to discharge...really not that loud unless you have really sensitive speakers.
They charge like $80 extra for a cool aluminum stand but I would rather pay $80 extra for a remote control.
I'd suggest using the included hex wrench to open up the top panel of the chassis and check that the op amps are seated in there correctly.What a disappointment, I just got my Burson Funk and came broken, the left channel doesn't works at all, neither headphones or speakers, so is probably the RCA section that is broken.
Another thing that I didn't like is that is not Australian, is Chinese made, hence the bad quality.
Yes, indeed, that was the firs thing I did, I also swapped the OP AMP located close to the RCA input with one OP AMP that came with my soundblaster AE 9 and still the same problem.I'd suggest using the included hex wrench to open up the top panel of the chassis and check that the op amps are seated in there correctly.
Thanks mate. A simple stereo switch ought to make it easy to choose between sources.Great review which answered a few questions for me.
My current amp is a McLaren A150B which outputs 75W into 8ohms. It's served me well since 1986 when I got it but I wonder if it's now a little bit tired. It's driving a pair of Peerless MK1000 3 way speakers of similar vintage. Original cost for them was $3000 but I got them second hand for almost a 10th of the price. I have been considering getting the Funk as a replacement for the McLaren for a while now and your review just might have me thinking about pulling the trigger. The Funk will connect to my Rotel CD11. I also have a Kaiser Baas Sound Switch but I'm sure the I can find a way to connect both to the single input.
No but I have tested the sparkos with my Sound Blaster AE-9 and the Funk with Burson V6. To me the sparkos are better OP AMPs.Has anyone tried the dual sparkos opamp with the Burson Funk?
