This thread is for the arcade/video game geeks

My brother hooked me up with a copy of Time Crisis (PS1), and I had been interested in light gun games for a while, noting that Namco made perhaps the best two light guns ever, the GunCon and GunCon2(PS2 only, has a USB port). I had used other arcade style controllers by Namco, namely the NegCon and JogCon race controllers, and they are built second to none as far as I'm concerned.

So anyway, I had a third party light gun by Mad Catz that was nice for the features it presented for both generations of Playstation consoles(autofire+reload), but I decided to pick up this bad boy because of the accuracy, build quality, and simplicity.

Now that I have one of those on the way, I'm going to build up a light gun game library, starting with the PS1, and then the PS2. Here's my list of games to consider so far, and I'm open to suggestions for more:
[PS1]
-Time Crisis: Project Titan
-Gunfighter(?)
-Elemental Gearbolt
-Point Blank 1, 2, and 3

[PS2]
-Time Crisis 2, 3, and Crisis Zone
-Resident Evil: Gun Survivor 2, 3, 4?
-Ninja Assault

I've acually had quite a bit of fun playing Time Crisis so far, despite the fact the game is nearly ten years old, much less a light gun game

But I think things might pick up when I finally get the better gun. The one featured in the pic is the first version of the GunCon, and the Japanese version was black. This is the GunCon2, orange for US, black for Japan-it has more features and accuracy than the predecessor:

IMO, games have come quite a ways since Duck Hunt and Clay Shooting, despite the continued simplicity of arcade light guns. Nonetheless, long live the Nintendo Zapper, the vintage favorite of all NES freaks!

The stupid bright orange NES Zapper was introduced when people starting complaining that toy guns looked too much like real guns. As if anyone was going to confuse the Zapper with a real gun. I have a grey gun as well, but most of the ones I see today are the orange color.

The only games I miss from my old Playstation are Time Crisis and Point Blank. I bought those two right before my system started to die, so I didn't get nearly enough time with them. I can't seem to find many light gun games for Xbox or Dreamcast, and the ones I do find are supposed to be pretty lame.

I have an Orange Guncon2, how I wish I had had the jap version of the guncon.

as for the games:
1) Ninja Assault
2) Vampire night
3) RE: dead aim or something....haven't even played it
4) Time crisis 3

Just wondering if anybody successfuly used guncon with component cable?(is it even possible?

).....by connecting the composite cable on the guncon along with the component.....tried it once...didn't work for me...

Hehe! That's a slap in the face to the Sega/M$ fanboys, isn't it

IMO, Namco makes the best arcade hardware, and when they bring that hardware to a console, they don't disappoint. My GunCon should be here in a few days. Until then, I just got my Minolta Z1, so I'll be very busy

Pffft. What you should do is what I want to do: Take a GunCon apart and make a cast of its shell pieces, and cast new pieces in pewter or pot metal, for that real gun arcade feel. I will admit though that black is always better, and both black GunCons look amazing.

Also, I get the feeling only a next gen. GunCon(for PS3?) will work with component video, but I hear that you can use S-Video with it. Not sure how it's supposed to work though.

It does seem to be a dying genre, which is very sad. Last time I played a light gun game was House of the Dead for Dreamcast with a gun in each hand. First light gun game I owned was Lethal Enforcers for the SNES. Such Awesomeness!

I too also have Time Crisis 2 and 3 and also Point Blank 1 and 2 along the Namco's GunCon and GunCon2. Those games and the GunCon light guns are awesome, they have been the most comfortable and accurate light guns that I've tried. I also have Lethal Enforcers which also another great fun game.

I'll definitely add Lethal Enforcers to the list then! I hope the GunCon arrives in the next day or so, I'm getting a little antsy

Judging on the past racing and joystick controllers that Namco has released, I'd say that IMO they make a lot of the best arcade hardware out there, and fortunately, it trickles down into consoles

I have Elemental Gearbolt. That was a really stylistic game -- beautiful score and nice artwork and animation. It is also tough as nails, and I've never beaten the game. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you can find it cheaply.

I also have Point Blank (1) and Time Crisis, both of which are awesome and I with which I have spent many an hour.

You know, the NES had the best accessories ever, and they still look and feel better than almost anything out there. I miss my NES controller.

thats actually a superscope, for the snes. And lightguns can come back in a BIG way with the revolution, with way better accuracy then a lightgun could hope for
