This looks neat, just wondering what the size limit is for the USB 3.0 when plugging in a hard drive. I've got the DP5SE and Gustard Audalytic AH90, but this looks really useful if you already have a DAC in place. Specs show all three USB plugs as inputs, but also USB output under that heading. No remote, but if you have a box of old phones they make great WIFI only remotes using the app. Looks like white is the only color option though...

Is this certified as “Roon Ready” or is it just Roon compatible with Airplay? Thanks

Which of the 3 usb ports on the N100 is the USB output? As you mentioned, the specs show all 3 as usb inputs, but the specs dont indicate whcih one is the output. Cheers!

Apos Audio: can you provide an answer to my question whether you can connect an external dac to the N100? If yes, then which of the 3 usb ports is the output to the dac? Also, is the N100 Roon Ready? Thanks.

Hi @Musikfan

Those are great questions! Yes, you can connect an external DAC to the N100, and all three USB ports are compatible for that connection. Lastly, as we mentioned earlier in the thread, the N100 is Roon Ready.

We hope this helps!

EDIT:

Hi Apos team,

I purchased an N100 streamer and went through the Volumio setup wizard. I opened Roon and the N100 was found as "SMSL S100", and there's a message stating the device is uncertified. When i click "Enable" a message pops up that there is a problem with the device, and that the device can't be enabled since that Smsl has not yet completed the Roon Ready certification process. So at this point you can only play through Airplay. The N100 shows up as uncertified.

Is the N100 actually Roon Ready? If so, why is the message popping up, and is there a workaround? I did try to close and restart both Volumio and Roon to no avail.

Thanks.

That's a Bummer. You don't want to be stuck only being able to use AirPlay with this N100 and it not being Roon certified. I had previously asked if it had Tidal Connect but they never replied back.

It does have Tidal Connect, and you can configure it through the Volumio app.

So you mean only Volumio has Tidal Connect abilities, but not the S.M.S.L.N100 itself?

If that's the case, you're saying in order to use Tidal Connect on the N100 you will first need to pay for Volumio's $80US monthly service fee in order to use Tidal Connect on the N100?

Still no response yet from Apos Audio about these questions, nor if the N100 is actually Roon Ready certified?

Hi,

I haven't heard back yet from either Smsl or Apos.

The N100 is enabled through Volumio. The N100 manual has a section addressing Volumio. The N100 shows up in Volumio and you configure the settings within Volumio. I'm using Volumio Rivo and received a premium subscription to Volumio. When I launched the Volumio app, the N100 showed up in the device list. However,
I'm not sure if you get a Volumio Premium subscription when you buy the N100, or if you will need to buy a Volumio license.

You can log in to Tidal and Qobuz within the Volumio app, and then access Tidal and Qobuz in Volumio. I also logged into Tidal directly, and the N100 was recognized as a device in Tidal and I could play music through Tidal directly. However, I think that's because the N100 was configured through Volumio. I don't know if Tidal would see the N100 as a device without Volumio.

The N100 is NOT Roon Ready certified at this point. I'm disappointed that I was told by Apos and Smsl that the N100 was Roon Ready. I bought it primarily for that feature so I was surprised when I opened Roon and saw the message that it's not certified. Based on that alone, I'll be returning the N100 in the next few days unless Smsl can provide a fix (which I doubt).

Apos and Smsl need to be much more careful in how they market these products and the information they provide to their potential customers if they want to keep the trust of their customers.

Thanks,
James
