My brother and a friend of mine have decided to pool their money together and buy me a headphone. Something under $200. But I have to choose it :)

Now, I have to say from the start that
1) I'm not an audiophile.
2) I'm not impressed with a loud bass. I listen to all kinds of music, but mostly classical music and rock.
3) Sound leakage is NOT OK. I hate hearing the guy next to me in the subway blasting his music on his headphones.
4) Aesthetics matter, somewhat. Something simple and minimalistic.
5) Size is VERY important. I don't want to look like I'm from the year 3000, so the smaller and less noticeable, the better. Plus, I travel a lot, so small and collapsible would be great.
6) Noise cancelling is not a must, but it's definitely a plus.
7) Comfort is a must.

I've come across the Bose AE2 and the Shure SRH840. I've been reading this forum and I understand why there aren't than many Bose fans here, but the AE2 seems to be OK. Maybe $30-40 overpriced but sturdy, small, not noise cancelling but the reviews say it blocks out a lot of the noise, very comfortable, and decent sound quality. I'm not sure about the comfort of the SRH840, and it seems a tad bigger than the Bose but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions? Can someone be a caring adviser? :)

Thanks.

I'm not a headphone man so I have no right to speak. However, you may want to search a little before settling on one of those two. I've heard some good reviews out there for a lot of headphones for the same price. Sennheiser would be a good place to start. Their HD series seems like a good area. Some of which have noise canceling. Sorry to waste your time, just my 2 cents.

Sennheiser headphones seem to be bigger than what I'd be comfortable with having. At least from the pictures I see, the AE2 seems much smaller than almost any Sennheiser product I've seen.

If you like the look of the Bose you can achieve the same style, audio performance and isolation with the JVC HAS700 for under $30:

Cool, thanks. Looks like they're about the same size and look freakishly similar too. Are they comfortable as well?

Any other suggestions? :)

Sepandee... I just recently purchased the JVC HA-S700 AND and the Bose AE2. Let me be the one to tell you that the JVC Truly outclasses the Bose by a VERY WIIIIIDE margin. I couldn't even begin to tell how enemic the Bose AE2 sounded in a direct head to head comparison using everything from an iPod Touch (4G) to a Sony PSP to a PC and finally connected to a receiver.

For both movies and music, the JVC really sounded much better!!

Now, I'm in the same boat as you are searching for a pair of over/around-the-ear headphones that sound better than the HA-S700 that is also flat-folding for portability.
