Just taken delivery of the Blur 189 Hybrid MX150 aPs (150Ω).

It's great!

Very similar in overall tonality to the 64ohm version of the same line except slightly drier (I believe this is a characteristic of the driver as I hear similar in the 266 MX150 Retune aPs), greater detail retrieval and a wider stage. Vocals remain sweet, offering more detail and being placed slightly further back than the 64ohm version.

I'm not certain which one I prefer at this point but I'm looking forward to burning these in now to see if the character changes any.
Blur have hit on a tuning here that is very friendly and inviting, especially for vocals. :beerchug:
Very nice looking buds there and oh, those tubes!

Thankyou :)

I'm really enjoying the 189 series, more than I thought I would to be honest.

Yeah @ian91 those tubes look great... I'm guessing sound it too. I'll have to take up your offer of guidance there soon too! 189 series certainly on the radar also but with 4 buds currently inbound, I'll need to hold for a bit!

Which 4 buds did you get?

Yincrow X6, Penon BS1 Official, LBBS, Newbsound 32pro. Nothing else then till January!!! - unless there are very good deals for 11.11 on AE...

Ha, mostly lower price compared to Blur etc anyway! Keen to get a taste of a few and then put the brakes on.

Noice, I like the X6 as a beater set for biking. I'm also looking at the LBBS, seems pretty good for the price. What made you get the Newbsound and Penon?

Penon was recommended to me by @audio123 - read his review and a few others to include this and thought I'd give it a try. Newbsound just caught my eye recently and when I messaged Bisoy, the described signature/price etc stacked up to give it a shot too!

Spending time tonight with my mx150 retune, listening to the following album from Tom Middleton (of Global Communication fame), sounds stunning - this is where my mx150 shine amazingly.

Yep, Newbsound seems good for $75. Can't wait to listen to it :)

They're here!

Wraith PK OFC 150ohm 2.5mm
266 MX400 aPs Bass Retune 3.5mm
Blur Docomo OFC (Gift)

Also, Wong let me know that my retuned MX400 is close enough to the 266R MX400 that he would recommend trying a different driver for the 266R. Guess I'll be trying something new :)

Nice!

I've decided to go with the MX400 as my OFC MX400 is somewhat different to the 266R MX400 graph. I'm hoping it will stand apart from my other sets anyway. Interested to hear what direction you go. I'm consistently impressed by the 64ohm driver so that would probably be my second choice.
