Sony WH-1000XM2 is the BT end game right now. I've A/B'd it with my buddies QC35 ii and it is the hands down winner in soundstage, tonality and NC. Pretty much a tie in comfort.
I was streaming MQA/hi res from Tidal on my V30+ with my BT connection prioritized for sound quality.
I wasn't familiar enough with the the iPhone X and iTunes to know what his settings were. He said his files were FLAC, but I'm not sure from where.
In my limited time with headphones, I've drawn the conclusion that with closed back cans, imaging / separation is far more important to me than Soundstage
I have the Sony WH-1000X2 as well, I find ( for me) that the soundstage is quite wide with focus on the vocals. I listen to everything from Goth rock to Jazz vocals. It is comfortable with a light weight feeling. Battery time is quite good as is ANC.
