I have one on the way. Should arrive Tuesday. I'm hoping they are a much better headphone than the T70p. With the T70p, guitars for rock and metal just sound so artificial to me. I really wanted to like them but man they just sound weird to me.

When demoing, the T5p sound great, but really shine when listening in your own home. I have never heard of a driver with such a low impedance rating pick up a faint hiss from a single track recording, let alone on a streaming service AND straight from an iPhone. Also, I don't know how my T5p, FiiO e17, and Cowon J3 stack sound better than a AK120 II and AKT5p stack. Once again, the private listening setting difference must matter that much.

i am blowed away by 2end gen.
spend whole day and evening in the chair listening from nu metal , psy trance to some old jazz, basically going thru my music library and rediscovering songs that i heard 1000 times ) its a cool feeling ...

I have heard that the T5p 2nd gen has a little bit more bass than the T5p 1st gen, which can be good or bad, depending on what genres you listen to the most. It may sound cliche, but I do feel that the T5p is a better overall listen than the T1, as the Tesla drivers sound best completely closed. Again, it may be on the public/private listening session differences, but that is how I feel, at least ATM.

i agree, 2my ears t5p is a better headphone, i enjoy it more than t1, because i found t5ps mids majestic...
and t1  did not impressed me, they sound good but t1 left me emotionally cold.

I felt exactly the opposite. To me, guitars sounded extremely unnatural. It's hard to exactly describe it, but it just seemed very fake sounding. Even some bass drum hits sounded awfully strange to me. The top end was nice, though. After having felt the same with my T70Pp I owned prior, I was thoroughly impressed with the sound of the T1. If the T1 were closed I would have for sure kept it as my office headphone.

T1 is semi open, just a little hole in the middle of housing, something around 1cm in diameter ...
and that hole is easily covered with foam or other sound absorbing material , so t1 can be easily transformed into closed back design.
 
by the way i know what you mean by saying t5p sound strange/unnatural  , earlier models tend to have a colored sound , feels like soundstage is in the dark and all musicians / instruments are lighted by a strange spotlight , thats the best way i would describe it ...
 
many head-fiers noticed that "colored"  t5pish thing ...
 
but later models had less of that and more of treble energy, so  people started complaining about t5p sound thin and bass light
 
then somewhere in middle of 2015 t5p changed a character to a smoother sound with more bass, warmer and darker but it sounded dull to me.
 
i know all that from personal experience, i had 4 different pairs of t5p with serial number 70*** to 24*** and i noticed some changes in sound character.
 
right now i am sitting with new 2end gen. drivers and i must say improvements have been made, its still a t5p sound character but with many flows gone.
 
Its a warm lush sounding headphone, very detailed and revealing, organic sounding but i wouldn't say its neutral. For neutrality i go to studio headphones anyway, t5p is sweet sounding , simply for pleasure and laying back in my chair , no analyzing music , just enjoying it.
 
But i can see this type of sound character is not for everyone , hardcore audiophiles will find flows

I must have gotten an older pair, then. I bought it from Amazon warehouse deals, but ended up returning it. The 2nd Gen sounds perfect for me for an office headphone, as I wouldn't be spending too much time being uber critical of my music anyway.

Interesting that that little hole in the T1 leaks so much sound. I currently have it for sale, but maybe if it falls through I'll look into trying to seal it up. Thanks.

I own the AkT5P to use with my Astell&kern. It sounds fantastic. I wonder how it compares to the second generation T5P.

I was able to hear the T1 2nd gen this past weekend and I still prefer my T5p 1st gen, as I could hear the tesla driver strength with the added isolation. The T1 still sounds arier and with a larger soundstage, but the tesla drivers sound best in closed form for me. Man, and the T5p 2nd gen was right there, but did not hear them.

well, t5p is still a t5p,  2end gen is warmer smoother with more bass, also more dry.... 2myears...
1st gen is more treble focused, compared to 2end gen
 
2end gen is all about "comfortable listening", a laidback lush presentation without sounding boring, its also very forgiving with "bad recordings"

Wow, the T5p first gen has serious synergy with the FiiO e17 when the cups are sealed. So many people complained about the T5p first gen to be bass-lacking, but when you get a tight seal on the ear cups, the sound becomes so V-shaped, especially on bad recordings, where bass is too strong for my ears and treble is rather edgy. The FiiO e17 bass/treble extension roll off goes perfect with the V-shaped sealing.
