I had a quick chance to compare both side by side using the same source but honestly I can't remember much from it (it was also a very short comparison).
I did feel like the T1 were a bit better all around but for me the portability of the T5p makes it the only option between the 2

Thanks for all the thoughts.

well, that's debatable depending on what you mean by portable. While they can technically be driven by an iPod, their heft is a bit over-the-top and MP3 files don't really do them justice.

That said, you simply cannot use a T1 unamped with an iPod. It's a physical fact.

No argument there.

The T1 is immediately noticeably better than the 880s, provided you have a good source and a proper amp. If we are talking ipod ... I'm not sure I'd consider any of these cans though.

I use my T5p straight from my iphone. The iphone doesn't give it enough juice so I have to equalize it a bit =/ They sound MUCH better even just out of a receiver.
But yes, I bring mine around. I walk with them, go on the bus and whatnot. Definitely portable (albeit very large)

Oh la la,, I used to live in Montreal and went to CEGEP as well, I could never afford an expensive headphone.
You must be doing very well ;)

Enjoy your T5p..,, by the way I decide to buy T1 and UE8.

I go to cegep. It's basically in between high school and university/college. 1year less of high school, 1 year less of university, 2 years of cegep.

I don't know if it will help but the only time I heard the T1 I found something wrong with the highs. Looks like other people here found the same, from what I've read. It sounded more dynamic, wide and V shaped than my DT880/600 at the time.
One thing I think everyone should consider when thinking of DT880/600 is to get recabled with Zombie-x. This turns this headphone in a completely different beast, combining some of the strenghts of my late K701 with the ones of DT880/600.
Too bad I didn't have a chance to compare a stock T1 to this headphone, yet.

T1 V shaped ?

(não se admite

) , there is clearly more medium body , more forward sounding than stock DT-880-600 ,  mids on T1 have a touch of warm wich DT-880-600 don't . For treble i think both have similar energy but T1 manage to be a bit smoother . There is a bit more impact and bass , but not soo much , and a bit less than DT-880 PRO for bass impact (this one could be refered as a bit V shaped , but nothing like DT-990) .

And there is many beyers with this emphasis on treble , some like it , other don't .

For me T1 is like a supercharged DT-880-600 ohms with a bit more clarity/transparency  details , wider soundstage (but not soo much) , a bit more bass impact , and a more bodied warmer forward midrange .

But DT-880-600 remains a better deal ^^ . In price/performance ratio . T1 if you have money , DT-880-600 otherwise , but you won't regret either
