Beyerdynamic T1 3rd Gen out now

Decided to send the T1.3 back. Though it's a good headphone it's not great.
From a small sore spot on the top of my head to the ever present bloated upper bass (EQ helps, I know). It is close but for my preference a T1.2 would suit me better.
I'll stick with my DT 900 pro x for when I want that open-back dynamic sound (for now ).
I think DT1990 Pro made this better, is more neutral, especially with analytic pads.

Agreed, but I find the T1 3rd Gen (with some mild Eq) very satisfying. I love having both options at hand.
Also, the T1 3rd Gen is superior in areas such as image, depth and soundstage.
Yeah in terms of technicalities and resolving ability the T1.3 is above the DT 1990. The tuning isn't for everyone, but I thought the T1.3 was the most resolving of the Tesla Beyers and is a large reason it won out over the T1.2, DT 1990, and Amiron Home for me.

In terms of technical ability I view it as this.

T1.3 => T1.2 -> DT 1990 => Amiron Home

The angled drivers is part of why the T1s are that great imaging and placing the sound.
Only with EQ or dampening mods would I call the DT 1990 enjoyable, but I do have respect for the driver and model. Owned them multiple times.
For what I own right now I don't think either DT 1990 nor T1 would bring much to the table

- Stax SR-009bk
- Meze Elite
- Sash tres SE
- Dan Clark Audio E3
- Beyerdynamic DT 900 pro x
- Beyerdynamic DT 700 pro x

everything else is up for sale, which recently included the DT 1990 and T1.3

From seeing what you currently own (first four) I would venture to say that not much else would bring satisfaction to you sessions...
Enjoy the view from the top 🥂!

interesting.

ive had the T1.3 T1.2 and the DT 1990 pro. sold both the T1.3 and the DT 1990 pro, and kept the T1.2 for me, this is the more resolving out of that group, and an overall better headphone.

The T1.3 and T1.2 were quite close to me in terms of resolution. But it could also be unit variances going on favoring my particular gen 3 over my gen 2. Could also just be system synergy. Both T1’s were notably more resolving than the DT 1990 and Amiron Home to my ears.

I wonder if any of you T1.3 owners got the new Grell OAE1. Reading the comments on the Grell and looking at the measurements they seem to follow a similar concept. Lots of bass and an U shaped sound signatures with an unusual treble response. The treble is most likely very hard to measure with the strongly angled drivers.

BTW is the driver angle of the T1.3 the same as on the T1.2?

They looked the same to me

Does anyone in this thread (who owns the headphones) run these balanced? My Ragnarok 2 outputs 24W into 32Ω balanced, which is way overkill for drivers as efficient as these, and I'm not sure if it's that insane power this amp provides or it being balanced (or both!), but everything just sounds *clearer* through the balanced output. It might be placebo, or it might be that the single-ended output on the Ragnarok 2 is not up to the challenge, but I'm too lazy to connect my RCA cables again to check :p

EDIT (forgot to add): At the very least, it removed the hum in the background that I was experiencing through the single-ended output. Dead silent when nothing's playing, or on quieter recordings, and that's what I definitely want.
Regarding hum, my T1.3 shows no evidence of hum with any amplifier I have used, balanced or single ended. It really is an underrated headphone that sounds very different from most, but is quite addictive. I run these without any EQ - they sound just right raw.

Only time I get noise is if there is a ground loop issue or something, but all my headphones have a hum/hiss if that's the case. It is a really underrated headphone with quite an unique tuning, I never EQ mine either. Don't really see a need to as I don't find anything lacking even the upper mids despite what measurements show. There are many headphones that measure with a much stronger upper mids but I find their upper mids weaker especially dynamically and not as intelligible as the T1.3's.

Hi guys.

Did anyone tried leather pads on the T1.2/ .3?

Never had the opportunity to install some of my ZMF Pads on the T1.2 (bc it was way earlier I had the BD), but I'm quite interested in the change in sound presentation.

I guess, it'd be a better fit on the T1.2 than on the T1.3.

What are your thoughts about this topic?

The case is, that I don't like the suede/ fabric stuff around my ears. :)

Thank you all for spending your time.

I have tried a lot of pads with the T1.3 headphones: stock, T1.2, T1.1, Dekoni elite velour, elite fenestrated, elite sheepskin, elite hybrid. Also tried with and without the stock T1.3 foam insert disks. The elite sheepskin and hybrid are way too dark, darker than T1.3 stock pads. If you prefer leather pads you may consider the elite fenestrated, less bass and more sparkle compared to T1.3 stock pads... but soundstage depth takes a hit. I have enjoyed the Elite Velour for a while, a bit more neutral than T1.3 stock pads while retaining great imaging. My current setup is T1.1 pads with the stock T1.3 insert disks. Was a bit forward sounding for my tastes so I adjusted my R26 DAC filter from "mid" to "slow" and now depth is better. With T-1.1 pads the degree of realism with vocals is the best I achieved with the T1.3 headphones.
