Beyerdynamic MMX 300 or Sennheiser PC350
Dec 23, 2008 at 12:25 AM Post #16 of 58
Go for the Beyer, if you can. I have the PC350 and was immediately disappointed by the the harsh/cold sound compared to what I'm used to with my UE Super.fi 5 Pro, but I couldn't spend more on a headset, at the time.
In fact, I came upon this thread while searching for reviews/prices on the MMX 300. Since you must have them by now, tell us what you think!

Sadly, I have NOT gotten it yet. None of the shops locally in Singapore want to bring it in. Keeping my fingers cross for some Christmas promotion and I'll order it online and have it shipped in.

The MMX300 is just a DT231 with a boom mic. Save yourself some major cash by buying a DT231 with a clip-on mic or if you need a boom mic, a DT234Pro.

Honestly.

Oh, this is an old thread I see, I see.

Anyway, I swear by an Audio Technica AD700 and clip-on mic for gaming.
You cannot get anymore better value for gaming.

While the AD700's are good for gaming, they are not great. Good soundstage, good detail, but very little bass, and very thin in sound.

The bass is highly dependent on the source. With a bassy source, it brings out the bass more, which is punchy and fast (not he fastest but still quite quick, quicker than my DT880's, although of course the DT880's do the bass better) but it lacks depth.

Good soundstage is an understatement, especially considering the price it goes for.
Being an avid gamer, I prefer my AD700's for my FPS's.
Thin sounding?

What?

Lack of bass != 'thin sounding'.

Thin = canned. Un-involving. Sound is not rich and has no punch.

Honestly you're the first person I've seen here to say that.
Everyone else (including me) say they're quite musical and involving.

For music, but not for gaming or movies imo.

Course, because it lacks bass.

For gaming experience (the sound of explosions), then yeah bass would help and make you 'feel' your into the game more and thus more involving but for 'he's over there or he's up here!' gaming practicality and frags, audio positioning then soundstage are more important.
Also, sound quality isn't as much of an issue in FPS gaming.

Agreed.

But i feel that the 880's have better positioning and the same soundstage as the AD700s.

That being said, the AKG K601's kills the AD700's in everything. Better soundstage, better positioning, better bass (slightly) and better detail. But i use the 880's over the 601's because of the richer, more involving sound for gaming.

But let's count in the price factor here......
Also reading up on here, the Sony MDR-F1's look like the gaming cans God would use....

Haha, fair enough.

But the F1's lack detail and pinpoint positioning, from what i've heard.

Agreed. They are the best gaming headphones for the price.

That said though, the AD700's by general consensus and by me also = some stupidly underpriced headphones.

Any actual advice from someone who has *used* both PC350 and MMX 300?

I'm looking for closed cans, myself.
