Beyerdynamic DT-880 and DT-990 review (pics)

Do you think an iBasso D4 could properly amp the 880 and 990?
What about unamped? Can't seem to find anything about these phones unamped, so I suppose they really need an amp @250ohms

Any suggestions for a good non portable amp around 250$?

New price here for the 990 is 115€ (145$) which seems very low(?), 880 is 215€ (271$). How is that compared to the price in the States?

thanks for your help!

Probably not. One thing i've noticed with the DT-990 32 ohm version is that I had the volume on my Ipod Touch 2g maxed along with the Nuforce Mobile on max volume and it didn't even feel that loud. I couldn't believe it.
You'd think that with a 32 ohm headphone the volume with an amp would get super loud. Of course, the NuForce is just a cheap amp and not for really expensive headphones, so maybe the iBasso D4 could do much better, but I still don't think it'd be enough for the 250 ohm version.

BTW, here's an interesting fact. I tested the Sennheiser HD-600 (300 ohm) out of my Nuforce Mobile and the volume was actually much louder then when I had my Beyer DT-880 32 ohm connected! It doesn't make any sense!

I use a Firestone Audio Cute Beyond Headphone Amp with the Beyerdynamic DT 880 600 ohms and it does a good job.
I don't even have the power supply unit...yet...
They go for around $180.

You could run the Beyer 880 600 ohms out of a mp3 player. The problem is the sound is thin and bland. And it sucks the battery life out of it.
That's why headphone amps are used because of the need for electric power needed to properly make it sound and perform correctly
Not so the volume can be louder.

I came across the same question just recently. Tried the 880/250 with my D4. It couldn't amp the 880. The volume was OK at around 8x-90% but the sound was distorted badly when it reached any high volume note. I'm wondering if it's because of my battery. Will amps act like this when the battery is reaching its end?

Did anyone try to amp their DT880s with D4?

Thanks for helping.
