Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread

Just got my elite Velour pads and my first impressions are positive. I was surprised how much thicker they are then analytical pads - see picture. I had no issues installing them in the "groove" once I figured out a trick - spread your finders on the inside of the pad so it keeps most of it's circular shape, and twist your hand.

Still need to listen for a while to see how they sound, but they are comfortable on my rather large/awkward ears :)They feel a tad warmer than the A pads - but they are also sitting in the mailbox in the Florida sun :)

Could someone explain to me the differences between the 1770 Pro and the 1990 Pro for mixing, mastering or tracking? I like to have a single headphone that could do all, but the thing is that I like the isolation the 1770 pro provides since there is always background noise where I live. Is the 1770 pro sufficient for all sorts of audio engineer works when i can't use my studio monitors?

Yes having owned and used the 1770 Pro and still have my 1990 Pro, if you're looking for isolation then the 1770 pro are sufficient enough.
as for mastering work yes they can be used, they're quite clean and sharp. some would say sharper than 1990 Pros being closed back.
use the right pads and enjoy.

I also just got the dekoni elite velour pads the other day and I like them so much more than the stock pads. For me, the stock pads were just a little too thin in depth and width. The dekoni's are much thicker, I can't really tell if my ear touches the sides or not. The stock pads I could tell my ear was pushed up against the back of the headphones. The increase of width of the pads also helps slightly reduce the clamp force because it's more spread across your face.

I'm not too sure how much the sound has changed. To me, it doesn't sound as bass boosted as the B pads, but it sounds a little bit bassier than the A pads. Everything else sounds pretty similar. I'd go back and pad swap to compare sounds, but to me the comfort matters most so I'll probably just stick with these regardless.

I don't know if it's my SBX AE-5 soundcard or the headphone itself but i feel like mids are a bit forward than i like with the DT 1990. It balances out itself at higher volumes though. It's really euphoric experience but forward mids/vocals giving me fatigue. Coming from DT 770 250ohm their mids are laidback and much more easier to listen. Even though DT 770 is harder to drive i have no problem with it. DT 1990 is easier but i feel like higher volumes makes it more even/balanced, detailed, clean, textured and opened up soundstage. Low volume: mids are overpowered for my taste.

I've ordered dekoni elite velour as well. I'm liking both balanced and analytical pads but balanced pads giving more joy/euphoric experience while analytical pads giving more smooth/calm/detailed sound but less spice.

I don't have any problem with treble peak. I don't hear any sibilance. I've tried Sonarworks and oratory1990 eq but imo they are bad.

The DT 1990 does have more forward mids than many Beyers in my experience. I never found the DT 1990 or the T1.2 mid shy. The Amiron Home is a little laid-back in the upper mids, but not too much.

Honestly I find Sonarworks EQ to sound bad on the Tesla Beyers, it's meh on the Amiron Home and just horrible on the T1.2. On the T1.2 in particular, made me wonder if they even measured the same headphone. With the DT 1990, Amiron, T1.2, etc. it's better to find a different EQ that actually works. Only the HD 6XX responded decently to the Sonarworks EQ.
