If we find a bit of style DT990, it is clear that the new DT1990 is in my opinion the best. The medium is much better on my combo iFi, placement of instruments or voices the soundstage or accuracy everything is better on the DT1990. The DT990 is still a very nice headphone, but the overall balance and performance are in my view clearly on the side of the new DT1990 definitely possible !

Beyer does what he knows Beyer, the DT1990 is a detailed headphone, with punchy in my opinion a must visit for its value Beyerdynamic price / audio. I had the T90 there are no so long, we do not just say that it is a balanced headphone he can be still bright at times. The DT1990 is in my best, and if you like the sound very detailed earpads neutral will be very good in this exercise !

Does the DT1990 have the slightly metallic twang of the T90 or is it more natural? When moving from T90 to HD600 that metallic twang was rather glaring between the two.

No metallic twang to the sound on the DT 1990 to me. The DT 1990 takes a more natural approach to the sound, in fact I find it more natural to my ears than the HD 600. The DT 1990 and DT 1770 represent a bit of a tuning shift from Beyer imho. The treble has more bite than the HD 600 but not it's metallic.

I don't know if I can stand more treble. I think the HD600 is pretty spot on. Thanks for the info. I might still try them out if I find a place that accepts returns.

I understand, I'm pretty sensitive to treble as well, I can't live with most Beyers due to too much treble, especially the open-back ones. I can say this is the darkest open-back Beyer currently out. Yes, I do suggest trying them out with a place that accepts returns, I bought mine from Amazon for this reason just in case they didn't work out.
