Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

I did just want to mention that we will probably not be seeing a DT1880. Speaking with the Beyer peeps, the way they are refocusing the 770/880/990 is towards the pro-sound side of things.  The 880, of the three, is supposedly more towards audiophile listening and will thus be covered with the 1770 and 1990.

Next product will either be a 3rd gen T1 & T5, or proper replacements to the DT880, DT990, and DT770. Some may see the DT1770 and DT1990 as replacements already, and in a way, they are. However, the DT1990 and DT1770 are $600, and the old DT series are $300, although in reality they're more like $200, sometimes as low as $150.

A T2 is somewhere under way. With the consolidation of the lineup, unlikely we'll see a cheaper version of the 1770 or 1990 soon. The unknown is whether the t70 t90 will be updated or cut altogether.

I can't see a reason to update the DT-770/880/990 since they're all very capable headphones IMO and cheap enough to buy in multiple units for studios etc. or for those who want attractively-priced mid-fi 'phones. That $200-$300 price point is not likely to see the Tesla drivers, so what else could they update them with? Those models have essentially been unchanged for 30+ years IIRC and still get plenty of love!

Agreed - I'd say that the DT880 still represents one of the most bang for the buck options in today's world of megabuck headphones - it's price yells mid-fi, but it's better than that. In fact all of them are exceptionally good value for money.

Looks much better than the DT 1770 case.

The question that I have is really how many people actually use these cases?

The one that came with my DT1770s is still in the box, and the only time it was used was to take the headphones out for the first time. Since then it's remained unused.

Does this case actually come with the DT1990? If so then quote frankly I'd prefer that the headphones cost a little less, rather than having to pay for a case that I'll never use, or at least have the money left over to buy a case that fits my needs better.

The best unboxng experience I ever had was for the HD25. You opened a cardboard box and inside were the headphones and cable in a plastic bag, and a 3.45 to 1/4 inch jack adapter. I didn't feel that any of the money that I spent was wasted on superfluous rubbish that I would never need.

You are right. I never use the DT1770 case myself. I use the DT case on my daily ride to work in my backpack only. The DT1990 will share this fate for sure. But these are pro cans, so who knows, maybe the hard case is a requirement of a lot of pro customers.

I use the case for my T70 headphones each and every time I'm done using them. Space prevents me from having a docking station or hooks.

I don't...many simply aren't even remotely functional.  I use a drybox for all my headphones at any rate.  Lets the cable sit freely and when I turn on the air-conditioning, traps a bit of that rather dry air inside (without needing a hard to control dessicant).

Same feeling here.
