No scooped mids there??I ended up buying the DT1770 yesterday, and after about a day of listening I do enjoy the sound, maybe more so than my HD700, though the openness and lightweight/comfort of the HD700 is missing.
Have a feeling that these DT1770 are gonna get hot now in the summer months, and I do put comfort high up on my list, so am not sure if sound alone is enough for me to keep these cans yet.

The agony of headphones in hot weather: either they're too hot or the sound of the AC comes in.I ended up buying the DT1770 yesterday, and after about a day of listening I do enjoy the sound, maybe more so than my HD700, though the openness and lightweight/comfort of the HD700 is missing.

Can't say it's something i've noticed, only thing i've noticed so far regarding the sound is that the low portion is a bit overpowered, but that was expected, as it was something I missed on my HD700.No scooped mids there??
Hehe true, and on of the reasons I wanted to give the DT1770 a go was because of sound isolation, and with that you do get more heat around the ears of course. The agony of headphones in hot weather: either they're too hot or the sound of the AC comes in.
Have sold some gear. Already have DT1770. considering DT 1990. Is it worth owning both?
or should I buy a new pair of Grado instead?

What attributes are you looking for: wide soundstage, openness, clarity on vocals, detachable cables, home vs travel use...?Have sold some gear. Already have DT1770. considering DT 1990. Is it worth owning both?

The 1990 are good but have a bothersome high end. The Amiron Home on the other hand are much more friendly to the ear. As they don't get the attention from YouTubers you can also pick them up for superb prices used on ebay. They're some of the most comfortable headphones you'll ever wear.Have sold some gear. on the DT-1990 comments. Amiron: there is a fine line separating “friendly to the ear” and muffled....The 1990 are good but have a bothersome high end. I've never found the Amiron muffled. Ever. The balanced pads on the 1990 are muffled. The analytical pads for the 1990 (the T1 pads) are clearer but suffer sibilance. The 1990 wasn't designed for home use, the Amiron Home was.on the DT-1990 comments. Amiron: there is a fine line separating “friendly to the ear” and muffled....
Engaging and fun. Home useWhat attributes are you looking for: wide soundstage, openness, clarity on vocals, detachable cables, home vs travel use...?

I recently sold one of my main headphones and decided to come back and use my 1770 pros. I realized it uses a mini XLR to 6.5mm cable. If I purchased a mini XLR to a 4 pin XLR balance cable, will there be any noticeable changes? Is it worth getting a cable like that or just keeping it stock?

You could also consider a custom-made mini XLR to 6.5mm cable. I own a DT1770 pro and use a Lavricables Silver cable for it.I recently sold one of my main headphones and decided to come back and use my 1770 pros. I realized it uses a mini XLR to 6.5mm cable. Since the design is single ended, if you are somehow able to find a 3 pin XLR to 4 pin XLR cable, you gonna nuke your amp by using such a cable.I recently sold one of my main headphones and decided to come back and use my 1770 pros. Always remember:
balanced Headphone + unbalanced termination = good
unbalanced Headphone + balanced termination = bad
