Got the DT 1770 250 ohm headphones. They are really heavy and boomy in the bass region compared to my DT1350 (which I love for their sound but not comfort). The overpowering bass seems to drown out the mids. I drive them with Schiit Magni (1st ver) or Marsh Class A diy amp. Either way the 1770 have too much bass, otherwise sounding really nice. Is it me or others find them too boomy?
I do not find DT1770 boomy in any way. Are you sure your DT1350 isolates at all on your ears? It sounds like you do not get any bass on them and have adjusted your ears to almost no bass? I have the T51p and they have about the same bass-quantity as DT1770 (and DT-1350 if I remember correctly). The DT1770 is a pro-monitor and they are supposed to be tuned to neutral as a reference monitor for mixing and mastering.

But remember that bass impact require some time to adjust your ears to. So, if you have adjusted your ears to almost no bass impact, DT1770 can sound boomy. Give them some time and let your ears adjust and you will find that 1770 is one of the best in terms of a balanced natural characteristic you can find.

I've been looking at the DT 1770 for a while now, currently got the Sennheiser HD700 as my daily drivers, I've had them for 7 years or something now, but I want something that is closed off and got some isolation from outside noise.

The biggest plus side of the HD700 for me is the comfort, you don't notice them at all which makes it possible for me to use them for hours. How are the DT 1770 in that regard? 10+ years ago I had the DT 770, which was my first headphones into "head-fi", and I do have good memories of them, which is also why i'am looking at the DT 1770 now.

I cannot comment on the HD700. However, I have the DT 1770 Pro - and for comparison, the Denon AH-D9200 and Audeze LCD-2C.

Despite their weight, I find the LCD’s the most comfortable due to their huge sumptuous pads. The Denon’s are not so good, as the pads sit partly on my ears lobes, rather than completely enclosing my ears as with the LCD’s.

As for the Beyer’s, I personally find them not so comfortable. The problem is the pads are not sumptuous enough to comfortably distribute the relatively high clamping force. There is also some force exerted on my jaw/cheekbone which is not ideal.

Only my personal opinion, and based on my large(?) head, but if comfort is a top priority - I would suggest you consider other options. Of course the Beyer’s have other qualities, which is why I bought them on trial and ended-up keeping them..

Those other mentioned in your post is in a whole other priceclass, at least over here, but thanks for the reply :)

I've heard that the DT 1770 are not the most comfortable for some people, and I doubt i'll find anything that comes close to the comfort of the HD700, but would be nice to listen to music and game with for a few hours without it being a problem. How are the DT 1770 compared to the DT 770 when it comes to comfort?

Edit: I do actually have a Denon AH-D2000 laying around, which is what I got after the DT 770 I remember. Haven't used them for many years though, but I did enjoy them.

I've never heard anyone talk about pads and being "sumptuous" quite so much.

That said, just grab the Dekoni sheepskin. It'll boost the bass for sure, but also be comfy as heck.

770 returned, the mids are behind the behind the background, LOL. The mids went for cigarettes, but never ever returned.

Do 1770 also have scooped mids? gonna have to put the cash out and get an audeze, either that or stop this rabbit hole of wasted money, just to get a bassy cans... hd25 are good and cost just 100€... can't be that hard to make them a tad better for 300€, no?

Caveat: I heard the 177X, not the 1770 specifically, but I'm assuming they have the same character if not exact technicalities.

Yes, there is a mid scoop. It's just the Beyer thing. If you don't like a V-shape then Beyer is likely not the brand for you. They're known for thumpy bass and energetic highs, but not so much mid warmth.

if the mids in the Beyers are to regressed for you, i would recommend a tryout of the Dennon AH D7200, also has a good bass punch but is more of a U shape then the Beyer V

Only problem havent seen the d7200 under 400€ on EBay but we cant have everything in one HP :p

I have DT1350 and DT150. Both have good mids. I'd recommend the DT150 over the 1770 if you like flat, balanced freq responce. DT1350 if you want more presense in the mids. DT770 was mediocre and much inferior to DT150. Been listening to this model for afew days now and I am very impressed. Just not that comfortable (head band).

Thanks all for the clear advise and input, I get it. It is what it is and it is scooped... again, not a bad signature for lower volume listening... but I keep pushing up the pot to hear the mids, and the rest got so loud... not for me indeed, not for me... I don't want to spend a lot on a closed can, and I wanted something versatile... hd25 definitely my all-in-all cans winners, sound amazing with an old ipod... 770pro 80 ohm needed more juice. Maybe 32 Ohm more versatile... and less scooped??

The build, the comfort, the asthetics, the sturdiness, the weight, the reparability, the isolation... everything else was great on those cans.

My DT150 is 250 ohm. That won't work well with ipod. But the DT1350 is like your hd25, not over the ear. For sound quality the DT150 is excellent, highly recommended. DT250, is not so great, I tried it for a few days and returned it. Comfortable but sounded so-so.

I ended up buying the DT1770 yesterday, and after about a day of listening I do enjoy the sound, maybe more so than my HD700, though the openness and lightweight/comfort of the HD700 is missing.

Have a feeling that these DT1770 are gonna get hot now in the summer months, and I do put comfort high up on my list, so am not sure if sound alone is enough for me to keep these cans yet.
