Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

I have to say that these headphones cured my upgraditis. Really good performance for good price at least to my ear. Sound signature is something which I like and this is a good combo with Shure 846. These inside and shure outside. I could not be happier. Only negative thing which comes to mind are they need more clamp force, I wish the earcups would turn and have similar abilities as DJ headphones. I can live with the faults as these seem well build.

I bought some LCD2's while my 1770's were off getting looked at. Never looked back.
Will be listening to some LCD3's soon to see if it's worth the extra cost to go up to those.

What genres do you listen?

I feel like getting shorter cable (1 meter) for the DT1770. Any one have recommendations. I would prefer big jack 6.25mm from amazon uk maybe as I am gonna order something else there

I bought the Furutech ihp-35x II. Top quality cable and not too crazy expensive. Don' know if it's avaliable on amazon though...

FYI: I have asked beyerdynamics about the sound leakage to the environment from DT-1770 (velour earpads) and T5p. They answered that they have approximately the same levels (~18dB). But DT-1770 with leather earpads has 21dB suppression.

  Has anyone done experiments with upgrade cables for the DT-1770..? I have tried searching, but can't find much info on this topic.

The stock cable is too long for portable use, and actually it's also annoying the way it coils up. One option of course is to cut the stock cable down in length and keep it. I don't have any cables to compare it too, so not sure on the sound quality of the stock cable. Maybe some of you can comment?

Today received ORB audio's Clear Force mini XLR 6.3 and very very pleased with it. I think I have finally found better cable than the stock one (stock cables are very high quality IMO) after trying several cables like AKG C200.
The Clear Force sounds thick in mids and bass, add speedy and punchy nuances to kick drums and bass guitars. overall very warm but detailed sound that goes really well with my DT 1770 PRO.

I'm not sure ORB cables are available outside my country, but if you have chance just try listening those. they are fantastic.

Thank you for your information on the ORB Audio cable, interesting stuff as I have never heard about this company before. I just looked at their website, and it seems the make some very nice products.

As I mentioned a few posts back I ended up buying the Furutech ihp-35x II in the 1.3 meter version, so much more practical for portable use: Shorter of course, but also more flexible and does not tend to coil like the original. The top quality rhodium plated connectors are really nice and gives a solid feel.

I hear a similar improvements to what you describe: There is some ''roughness'' that is now gone and the sound is more coherent, slightly fuller and punchier in the upper bass and lower midrange and a bit more natural sounding.

@MortenB,
Sorry I missed your purchase report.
I've never tried Furutech cable, but a friend of mine who owns DT 1770 PRO too using the same cable and I've told he's very pleased with it. for Furutech ihp-35 is far better at handling than my ORB(which has very stiff cable, longer rubber bush on mini-XLR connecter) I guess it fits very well with your portable use purpose.
ORB audio is pretty well known brand among Japanse head-fier, because of their smash-hit, well-priced JADE CASA headphone amplifier series.
"Clear Force" cable series are their first cable products for headphone/IEM, but they seem to be well accepted and got good feedbacks as far as I've read on twitter.

@tisnala,
I've purchased mine at e-earphone online shop, and some Japanse online shops including Yodobashi.com(huge electronics vender in Japan) have stock too, but unfortunately they don't ship items oversea. if you're interested in ORB products find your local dealer or transfer service.
