Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

I hate to complain, but I have to ask-is anyone else really bothered by the straight cable's unwillingness to stay straight? I have tried every way I know to keep this thing from coiling up but to no avail. I have now gone back to the coiled cable out of shear frustration. Although fortunately I am seated within range of the coiled cable so as to not have it too stretched out, thus pulling on my head. They could have done better w/the straight cable imho.

Same situation with cable is for T90, T70, Dt880, DT990 from what i see. Why they just cant make flexible cable like HD650 have??? My Dt990 cable is tangled most of the time.

Hello!

I'm fairly new to Head-Fi and only created an account to ask a question for DT-1770 owners.

Which amp do you guys use to drive it and which DAC do you use to compliment it? I'm planning on purchasing a pair. I'm upgrading from ATH-M50 with a simple Fiio E10 DAC.

I'm leaning towards Modi 2 Uber + Magni 2 Uber. I mainly listen to electronic, instrumental, trance, and progressive music. Majority utilize bass, which is why I prefer closed-ear V-profile headphones.

I would love to hear recommendations for a desktop amp and dac.

Thank you,

-Erwin

I'd stay w/solid state given your music preferences. Can't go wrong w/Schiit.

Had been looking for a nice portable mini XLR cable solution for my cans that uses that connection and picked this up on the 'bay:

There's a switch (and the mic) located on the back side that allows you to switch between iOS and Android mode and I've tested it successfully on both:

The mic does a pretty good job despite being a little extended down (below chin level).

Here's a shot vs. the coiled cable to show length:

Quality isn't bad but you won't be mistaking it for a V-Moda cable any time soon. The biggest question remains how it will hold up quality-wise but thus far I'm extremely happy with it!

These are wowing me just driven from an iPod Touch playing deep D&B plus Neurofunk, so I'd say the Modi 2 and Magni 2 would be absolutely fine for these.

Thanks for the information Slaphead and nordkapp!

I'm almost positive that I would be going for Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 Uber, both B-stock to save $20.

I sent Schiit an e-mail just to be sure that the amp would be able to drive through the 250 ohms resistance on the DT-1770. I'll be buying the DT-1770 soon. Then the Schiit stack, PYST cables, and the Silverstone headphone stand.

Thank you,
