Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Sep 5, 2023 at 11:13 AM Post #2,386 of 2,684
It says 514xy with a lot less info as the older Amiron Homes I have had.
On the left just the number and the letter L, on the right "made in Germany", not in silver.

It doesn't matter much. The comfort and sound sig is how I remembered it: it feels like home :)
The pads and headband on this pair feel 100% like new

That cable referenced earlier: (https://www.head-fi.org/threads/beyerdynamic-amiron-home-the-new-t90.821567/post-17714816) seems to have opened up and definitely sounds better than the stock cable*. More detailed and transparent/finessed with fuller tonality, better separation and more stable imaging. Two days after I bought mine, they were discounted 28%! Oh, well . . .

[*NOTE: This eBay-listed OCC copper aftermarket cable is significantly better than the stock cable, but not as tonally full and resolving as my custom Neotech UPOCC hybrid cable: 4x 28AWG solid core silver + 4x 24AWG solid core copper.]

just bought a good condition used Amiron and was initially underwhelmed.
have been using dekoni hybrid pads on my 1990 for a while, so i thought i'd pop them on.
now i will need to order another set as, for me, they totally transform the Amiron (as they did the 1990)

got an otl tube amp on the way, so cant wait to try both on that.

The right channel on my [recently purchased--used] Amiron Home has apparently failed.
The R channel is outputting at about half the dB of the left channel and distorting [getting static-y] from time-to-time.
Swapping cables does not solve the problem.
After changing headphones [to the PRO 780i], everything upstream seems to be working fine.

It turned out to be the S.M.S.L. M400 DAC(!) after all.
Swapped in the little Hidizs S9 AKM and the right channel is just fine with all the headphones, wires, amps on hand.
This diminutive dongle really kicks! I actually like the bass response from it better than the bass from the SMSL.
Another DAC should be here by Wednesday.
(What to do with the M400?)

Mystery solved: It was a faulty socket saver making all the noise, plus the right channel on the Amiron was defective after all.

Got a refund from the eBay seller then found another pair on the H-F FS threads with thick/deep angled sheepskin pads. No. 10079.

Currently enjoying the Amiron with an aftermarket OCC cable, the LYR+ at 3:00 on low gain, the Mojo Audio Mystique DAC and an assortment of John Williams' fine musical scores.

Just exchanged the SMSL M400 [DAC] for the D400EX.
The Amiron have responded in kind and sound even better, to a competence level of which I would never have thought them capable, achieving new levels of detail, 3-D vastness/spatiality. Bass is remarkably well extended, dynamic and controlled.

Not sure this relates to the Amirons but I'd be wary of the Impacto if you want to for example watch movies on a laptop. Even my Aune X7s cannot deliver enough power for my T5p on a low gain setting although I can blow my ears off with it listening to music. I have to ramp up the gain at least half way in order to get enough loudness out of the headphones.
Hi, i also own an aune x7s and am planning to buy an beyerdynamic amiron home headphone. Do you think the aune can power them at mid or high gain. I know they will be loud enough but what about sound quality? Can you recommend any better amp for amiron home ?

Does that Aune not do 1000mW on XLR at 300 ohm, which is close? That should be plenty for sure. But so should the 250mW on RCA. The Amirons are quite sensitive: 102 dB SPL (1 mW / 500 Hz).

I don’t know why your T5p is loud for music but not for video. Maybe the video is mastered at -10 dB or more down, which would require some extra gain.

Anyway if you’re in the market for another amp, I think the Amiron does really well on a hybrid or OTL. I’ve got a Massdrop Cavalli Tube Hybrid, Eufonika H5 and Eufonika H7 and all of them pair amazingly well. Better than the Singxer SA-1 I used to own.

I do not know how familiar you are with amplifiers but there is this thing called skew rate which determines how fast an amplifier can provide voltage or current swings when the music calls for it. High impedance headphones typically require larger voltage swings while low impedance planars need more current. This is why many high impedance headphones like 300 ohm sennheisers sound best with tube amps as tube amps excel at providing high voltage swings music demands thus driving headphones with higher fidelity and giving more true to life ( or rather true to recording)dynamic range and micro details. Now the aune despite being solid state does provide good voltage swings relative to most other solid state amps in this price range but I just wanted to know how well the beyerdynamic amiron would scale up with better amp. It should be important to know that you dont really have to listen to loud volume to get a feeling of good dynamics of micro details in the music. If anything a good headphone+amp+dac combo should be able to reveal all details in the music without needing to turn up the volume. Also the spl level of headphones is not always helpful because they r measured by using a single freqeuncy sine wave ( usually of 1 kilohertz)while real music instruments have a frequency spectrum of nearly infinite number of sine waves so just because it can play 1 sine wave faithfully doesnt mean it can play real music instruments faithfully either. I have owned measurement chasing amps like topping L30II before and have also listened to instruments in real life and let me tell you the aune X7S does a far more realistic portrayal of music than the topping despite the fact both the amps should be " loud enough " for headphones.
