I love my Beyers - they have a great sound: light, airy; kinda retro;  they don't get in the way of the music - but they are not very portable and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a more portable companion; I'm looking for a similar sound.

My taste is very broad, Classical to Jazz, Electronica, Metal, World Music...

Budget-wise: $250. I'm based in Israel so that means around 1000 shekels.

Thanks

OK, so budget helped me narrow my choice down to the following:

  1. Sennheiser - HD25
  2. Sennheiser - HD25 SP
  3. AKG K-272 HD
  4. AKG K-242 HD

The sound I want to get out of these is a warm, tight & powerful bass that I can listen to for an extended period of time: think the Stranglers' JJ Burnell's performance on Nice & Sleazy or Straighten Out.

Anyone have a suggestion between these 4? I have yet to try them out but I am heading to the store in a couple of weeks.

All my tracks are ripped to FLAC, and I use Foobar with ready gain tags enabled on my PC and a 2GB Sansa Fuse I (+8GB Mini SD card) with the latest firmware to groove on while on the road.

Thoughts comments welcome - tnx
