Still tweaking settings with my new Denon D2000s and looking for hard-hitting, relatively well-recorded bass-centered audio clips. There were a couple of links in one of the D2000s threads but I'm hoping more people have links they want to share.

To get things started, I stumbled across this one on my own and it is still my favorite (I'm not talking about the music, per say--just the impact and quality of the bass ...)

This is another good one:

Any other contributions? Any musical genre or even movie clips welcome ....

Don't bother with youtube if you're trying to analyze the sound of new headphones, go for at least 320kbps MP3 rips or ideally lossless rips of the songs. Youtube is good for finding and having a first rough listen of music but its music quality is below-average.

Yes, yes, I know that youtube quality is in general pretty poor ... But I still think that first link I posted sounds good though. And in terms of easy access to bass tracks (apart from downloading, of course) how else are we to share them here on the forums? I think it is okay to listen to youtube stuff, as long as you are aware that you aren't exactly listening to reference level material ....

Second one hits considerably harder than the first, but there's still plenty of audible distortion in it.  I don't even know why're bothering with these.

What exactly are you tweaking when using songs that are just primarily sustained bass tones?  Testing with just bass tones is as easy as getting audacity and generating bass tones in it.

Setting bass boost and cutoff frequency in my soundcard's control panel. Say what you want about youtube's quality, listening to different tracks still helps me get my overall sound where I want it to to be.

this is fun

no idea about the bitrate but says it comes from a dvd.

Some good countdown to the lowering cycles, and nice that they do to be able to judge.
Hope it doesn't destroy your cans.

For some reason I am getting both youtube and this coming on at the same time so here's the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO1-fLbbM4g

Bill and nick--thanks for the links!

Nick, that "Penultimate Bass Test" might be my new favorite. Very clean and hard hitting. Had my Denon's vibrating on my ears but didn't sound distorted. Some nice variations and I even like the video that goes with it ...

Thanks again, guys!

EDIT: Defender, you must have posted that while I was writing this. Thanks for your contribution too!

Glad you liked it. I test some orthos on it . Seems better than their Return to Bass track. It's nice that there's specific clean frequencies there and not from instruments.

Anyhow here is the Return to Bass one from the same uploader so it's also looking like it is quality. This one needs a bit to get going. Been in my test tracks forever.

None of the following are anything close to the onslaught of those Meat Beat Manifesto vids but fun anyhow.
Also try these guys they have a bunch of good stuff.  ( Beijo,  Dabudei, etc )
Not much on youtube though

here's a simple low down pound. I feel this first one pretty good...
Nerdcore:  Dr Awkard's Geekquilibrium  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20-txQdOo4Q&feature=related
MC Frontalot's Livin' at the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaBZPON6Hb0&feature=related  good sound for youtube suprisingly  Fun stuff either way.

Heya,

I use Audacity to generate tones to test bass with.

Very best,

I still have to get around to trying that. Thanks for the reminder.

Excellent links, nick n! That Manifesto one sounds a little distorted/scratchy on my cans but that may just be the way it was recorded. The others are all pretty clear though.Never heard Beijo or  Dabudei before, but I like them!
