I know un-amped is limiting to about 50 ohm. I travel a lot, so looking for something that can take a beating or two. I listen to lots of bass driven music, reggae & dub. Straight from the iphone, about 98% FLAC files. Suggestions?

Personally i love the ultrasones bass. Not bloated, controlled and powerful. HFI 780's.

I have the HFI-780 too and love them. I was actually thinking about the ALO mod for them and see how much better they would sound. Then again I like the idea of a brand new set too.

400$ is perfect, Get the Pro 900 from Lookat.com
They can offer it to you for less, I'd like to arrange a bulk group order and you guys could get a pretty good discount from their site, they are reliable and have great attitude and support, I recently ordered from them and they are TERRIFIC. I HIGHLY recommend them

this or HFI-580 OH a word of warning, the XB-700 need the samllest of amps, I'm talking the fIIO-e5 I think, the tiny little clip on one to get the bass to its fullest on the go.

I always loved the bass of the HFI-680. Overall though the M50 is a better headphone and better deal. Just prefer the bass of the HFI-680.
The SRH-750DJ is also a bass monster to many people. I actually felt it had much more bass than the M50 by far! It also has more forward sounding mids.
I personally hate the 750DJ, but it's worth looking into. I imagine the M50 is more comfortable though.

Regarding the Ultrasones, if you're going un-amped, go with either the HFI-580 or HFI-780 over the HFI-680 because they're both 32ohms as opposed to 75ohms. If bass is your thing, can't go wrong with the 580s. Good luck on your search.

fixed that for ya. IMO the HFI-580 is leaps and bouts better then the m50, the m50 was boring, not that bassy, and had no pull. The mids were meh, the highs were there but nothing special. It wasn't even that neutral.

Loving the 780, i didnt even think of going for the 900 pro's......now i have more homework to do
