Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack. Slightly techno-ish yet very lush and orchestral score (Think: Hybrid with that Russian symphony orchestra at 1/2 speed and 1/2 energy). Obviously "tracked" in MIDI, it doesn't sound like it was performed live, but the melodies are to die for.

I just tracked down a copy of the game a few months ago to have on CD again, since I love the soundtrack so much.

Alex, this was the same one I was going to suggest -- good call, man! MechWarrior 2 is so far my favorite game soundtrack by far. I can't find my game CD anywhere, so I will likely buy it again just for the music.

I'm going to say that Homeworld had the best soundtrack that I have ever heard in a game. It fit soooo well. But the best part of it was how it flowed, if you got into battle it would shift into a quicker and, well, more exciting mood, but if you were just sitting there staring off into space it would have that awsome choral thing going on, just great.

If I remember right it won an award from pcgamer or the like for best use of sound.

Yes.. I remember reading that issue..either in '98 or '99.

Anyway, of the top of my head, I remember really liking (and I mean really liking) the "menu screen" tune from EA's Need for Speed 2 ... it's like an euro/techo/dance tune....but for some strange reason, I don't think that many of you guys would like it... You can still download the demo (~16MB) and listen to it..

Oh.. Unreal Tournament also had some decent music in it...

Jude, since you bought a copy of Mech2 at some point, I'm pretty sure you still have a license for it, which would make it legal for you to have a copy... if you want, send me a PM, I'll burn you a copy of my CD.

OMG, FFVI is my favorite game ever, by far. The only game that can come close to it is the original Star Wars: TIE Fighter for the PC.

Anyways, I looked for the soundtrack on Amazon and it was $53.49 for the 3CD OST import!

Anyone know where I can find it cheaper?

I have finished the PC-game "Another World" about 20 times because I was addicted to the ending music (when your character flies away on a dragon).

I also like this one:

take one step from side to side
come on let's go!
it's time for the mario!

When Entomorph came out I was all over that soundtrack. Then I heard good music. Note to self: nostalgia makes things seem a lot better than they were.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Xenogears has a really great soundtrack!

huh, I didn't even notice that there were other MW2 soundtrack fans. Yeah, the songs are very orchestral sounding! my favorite is number 15 (song number 14). Very erie. it kills me every time I listen to it.
