As an IT guy I bring my laptop almost everywhere. Its 4 years old, but when I bought it it was top of the line.

It has a Realtek HD Audio card in it.

Just wondering what software/plugins everyone uses to get the most out of their listening experience?

I typically use VLC for everything as Im a fan of keeping my computer lean, but I realize there are probably other options out there that have better EQ's or some awesome plugsins and such.

Everyone  here is in love with foobar2000, it's probably the best in terms of plugins available. Extremely lean by itself too. I personally hate it because of its piss-poor library management, but seeing as you use VLC I'm sure library management isn't your priority; it sounds like a good match for you.

Check out Easy-Q if you decide to try foobar.

Library management isnt on top of my list. I manage it myself on an external drive.

Where do I find Easy-Q? Doesnt appear to be in the Foobar plugins list.

Thank you.

Found a Foobar plugin that allows VST plugins called George Yohngs VST Wrapper. Drop your plugin .DLL into the Foobar2000/components folder and find the EasyQ plugin. You have access to EasyQ in Foobar directly from your task tray.
