Is there a limitation on Android phones outputting higher bitrate signals? Can the Axon 7 output more then 16/44 to an external DAC?

It depends whether you use extra software like PowerAmp, UAPP, Neutron or not. If yes, then it will output to whatever the DAC supports, otherwise it will always outputs 16/48 or 16/44.1 depends on your phone

I've owned or tested the LG V10, V30, V30s, V35, and V40 and i can tell you there was a definite sound difference at the V40 split (when they went to Meridian tuning). It is smoother and less bright/clinical than the previous V's--and its noticeable w comparison on quality headphones especially with material like early Beatles. The V35 is where they started adding (some would say unnecessary) audio options like DTS-X and EQs--but really help when playing in the car.

Even though i am not a huge fan of the V40 size increase, I use that as my DD over the V30s because of sound difference.

I'm personally wondering about the audio on the new G8X, about to be released in the US with that second screen included for only $700 unlocked. I hear it uses the same DAC as has been in place years now....but wonder if anything else is different?

No...the V30s is different than the V30+. From what i recall, the V30+ is the same as the V30, but with 128GB of storage (SD835/4GB RAM). The V30s keeps the 128GB storage but kicks up RAM to 6GB. Finally, they added (at the time) additional AI camera enhancements. The S also comes in that really pretty Moroccan Blue color. All use same DAC and audio tuning---up to V40.

Ah yes...the V35 is many people's preference and I would have kept it if not for the V40's smoother sound. The V35 ups the processor to an SD845 but keeps the smaller 6" (in many ways preferred) screen. They also added the DTS-X and EQ audio enhancements not found on the V30--great for car use. This was also the last model tuned by B&O before LG went to the audio experts @ Meridian (developers of DVD-Audio back in the day). That means has that same brighter/more clinical sound of the V30 as opposed to the smoother V40.

What do you mean by great for car use? I use my v30 now in my cars. I have the ML lexus system in one car and my other I have about 10-15k worth of equipment. THanks

I mean that the dts-x "expansion" & equalizer will help out fill the sound in many cars. The V30 offers neither of those. That doesn't include your state-of-the-art car system though :)

I would never use either of them with headphones though.

Well, I am pretty much doubtfully about measurements to traduct audio quality.
10$ dongle beating ~150$ dac... On computer screen magic maybe

Anyway I thinking now saving money for getting a lg v50

you'd be surprised. Some experienced uses have tested them and it fared favorably even compared to mid-fi sub usd$500 DAPs. Even crinacle uses them for his testing:

but hey, if you don't believe measurements and recommendations from the guy who tested literally hundreds of TOTLs, more power to you.

I've owned my Korean lg v50 for 6 months now, came from a V30/35. I could never go back to the inferior badly tuned screen of the v30. The v50 is much improved in many areas.
