So what's the best rootbeer? I like IBC and A&W. I'm sure there is some microbrew out there.

Messed up on the first post it was IBC that I liked.

Henry Weinhard's Root Beer is my favorite, but it's hard to find. I'm lucky, they have it at Costco here in the Northwest (for fairly cheap in 12 packs!).
As far as what you can get in a grocery store, A&W all the way. Far better than the rest. Don't even get me started on Barq's (BARFS!).

IBC by far.

kinda pricey though.

mug tastes like cheap candy. a+w is too creamy.

Man, i've got to send ya all a bottle of sprecher rootbeer. Milwaukee microbrew, it's great stuff. IMO, it could use a tinge more cream, but other than that, it's as close to root-beer perfection that i've ever come to

My favorite is A&W.
I actually prefer Mug to Thomas Kemper and Henry Weinhards.
Barqs is the worst rootbeer ever IMO.
I've never tried IBC (or I can't remember it).

1. A&W
2. Mug
3. Thomas Kemper
4. Henry Weinhards

(big gap)

5. Barqs

Honestly, I'd like to find a really good rootbeer. I'll have to try IBC and Mt. Angel, any more suggestions?
edit: Thanks Tuberoller!

I seem to remember liking Hires quite a lot. XXX is also tasty.

IBC is a good standby, seeing as how it is everywhere.

A&W is almost as good.

I don't like Barf's.

Specialty root beers are extremely good but many finish with either an oily or overly spicy flavor (or both).

I haven't found my Ultimate Root Beer yet. Time to drive down to www.ifandsbutts.com again...

I have to agree with ebonyks, being a fellow wisconsinite I just luuuuuuuv sprecher, not only the rootbeer but they also have many specialty beers as well. But as for some of the others, I cannot say I have even heard of most of them, except for IBC which is quite good.
