Hi!

I am looking for new pair of headphones!
I mainly listen to jazz(coltrane, davis etc)
I plan to use them with my Iphone 4 and my budget is around 500 $.
They should be able to play loud and without using portable amp.
I´ve considered the Pioneer hdj-2000?

Help would be appreciated!

Best Regards

Beyer T50p comes to mind. They sound pretty decent with jazz.

Well, I know this sounds stupid, but the Monster Miles Davis Tributes are so damn good for jazz. Every other genre is pretty good, ambient is so so, but my God! Miles and Metheny sound so good on these things!

If you’re looking for more portable stuff, I think the ESW9 would work.

The DT1350 have better technicalities but I found it hard to get a good fit with them. When I did, they sounded really great

Thanks so much for all the replies!
Which ones would you consider the best for portable use direct from Ipod.
Denon d5000 or the b&w p5?

D5000.

Laughably, no contest, especially if you want comfort and supreme sub-bass ability, with a great sound stage.

(note, one is on ear essentially, the other is over ear - easy choice)

Very best,

Very best,

One is large and not what I would recommend as a portable. 195 grams compared to 368 grams (13oz).    But each to his/her own.

Ah sorry man, it was late and I misread! Hmmm... You could always try... Damn I'm stumped.

EDIT: Infact I'll second the P5, I owned them briefly and they sounded wonderful but they don't agree with glasses unfortunately. :frowning2:

Grado SR325is is great for jazz and runs well off portable players. Might not be the best for portable use because the cable is quite thick. I however use MS-1i with the thicker Grado cable daily on the go and have no problems with it.
