Best Metal Albums of 2009?

Id say the Animals as Leaders cd, just found it a couple weeks ago, but its impressed me far more than anything else this year. Though Endgame gets an honorable mention. I wish i could say the new black dahlia murder, but it just doesnt impress me like nocturnal did.

I did find lots of new metal in 09 though, just didnt come out in 09, like Insomnium, Above the Weeping World

It's great until you realise it becomes monotonous really, really quickly.

Isis - Wavering Radiant
Baroness - Blue Record
Converge - Axe to Fall
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
The Chariot - Wars and Rumors of Wars
Katatonia - Night is the New Day
My Dying Bride - For Lies I Sire

For me, without a doubt...

Swallow the Sun - New Moon

After Plague of Butterflies, I thought they may have reached their peak. I'm not sure if anything on New Moon matches the 34 minute opener of "Losing the Sunsets / Plague of Butterflies / Evael 10:00", but it is certainly right on par with the best of their work.

Haven't heard enough 09 metal to say, but that is a definite contender for my album art of the year. I adore the relief of that image.
