I have the Zune HD 32GB. I am not satisfied with the sound quality with any of the equalizer settings as well.
Currently I am using Klipsch Image S4. They are nice but IMO they are not worth the $80 I spent on them. They are not as clear as I would like , the highs can sometimes "hurt" and it's not as balanced as I thought. 
 
What would be a good match of earbuds for the Zune? Would I have an easier time buying an external DAC? Such as the FiiO e7? Or should I be looking at the earbuds themselves. The most popular ones that I have recently read about were the RE0s. Is this a good bet for me.
 
Any help would be appreciated.

I ordered both the Brainwavz M2 and MEElectronics CX21-BK.  If you want I can do a quick review of them and give you the results. 
 
I know that Maximo iMetal iM590's are great for the price.  I reviewed them last week and really enjoyed them.

If you have a huge budget I also reviewed Monster Turbine Pro ( copper ) and think those are the best IEM at that price.
