Of everything I've heard I rate the Omega 2 tops, but the HE60, TakeT H2, K1000, MDR-R10 and Ergo AMT are all top notch contenders too depending on the listeners needs and the rest of the equipment.

I havent heard the Qualia, HE90 SR-Omega or 4070.

You know, reading the thread about what it takes to properly amp the TakeT's over in the amps forum, I think that no one has heard these properly amped yet. There are literally zero commercial amps that seem suited to driving them. Link.

Can't wait for someone to test them using the design KG posted.

Best headphones ever...

Maybe a pair of near field monitors strapped to your head on some sort of mutant K1000 headband.

And of course the speaker amp backpack.

Be careful what you ask for. How about FOUR speakers strapped to your head?

Of those I've heard, I'd have to say (in rough order of preference):
  1. HE90, R10
  2. Omega II, Qualia
  3. L3000, HE60
  4. HP-2
  5. HD650
Now these are all great phones and this is like the top 5% of all cans, so no one should take offense that say the HD650 is at the bottom of this "best of" list (in fact, I think that it's the best value in audiophile cans, so it'd be #1 if price were taken into account). Also, I'm not sure where Take H2, K701, Edition 9, or Omega I fall into this list, since I've not yet had the chance to ilsten to them properly.

HE90/HEV90 is the best I've ever heard. It's simply pure magic - not necessarily the most accurate system mind you, but magical all the same.

A Qualia 010 in the right system or a Sony R10 in the right system can come close.

I don't know about the H2 - I don't think we'll hear what it's capable of until there is an amp specifically designed to drive it, or until someone with a Blue Hawaii gets one and makes an adapter to drive the H2 with it.

I haven't heard the O2 or the K1k so I can't comment.

Under $1000, the bass-light K340 clearly takes the cake. The HD600 can also sound astonishing, but only when you have serious gear behind it.

Heard and formerly owned most of the high-end headphones and I think I've also heard them pretty close to their potential, i.e. with quality source and amp...except for the r10s but was able to recently spend a couple of weeks listening to them.

1) K1000
2.0) R10 (close tie, but prefer dynamic over electrostats)
2.1) He90
3) PS1
3.1) L3000
4) Qualia 010

That was a joke, right? If not, you haven't learned much on Head-Fi.

But you're pretty new here, so keep reading. There are a lot of informative posts here from very experienced members and I'm sure they can help you find some good cans.

If you were joking, ignore what I said.

Are any of these headphones good for electronic dance music? Perhaps only PS1 and L3000?
