What are the best headphones in the world that money can buy. No special requirements like being IEMs, closed, open, low resistance, etc. What is best out there?

These are the highest ranked headphones out there:
* Stax SR-007 (mk2)
* Stax SR-Omega
* Sennheiser HE90
* Sony MDR-R10
* Sony Qualia 010

Which one that is the "Best" depends on who you ask.

Non head-fi: Ibuds, Bose and other big names, "People actually spend money on headphones?"

HeadFi: Perhaps the TakeT H2 balanced (I think it is called that) could be added to krmathis list as it has some high reviews also...

k1000 has a large following along with the audio technica leatherhead L3000

hp1000s have lots of increase in price though it seems primarily for collector value

Having heard the R10's, K1000's, L3000's, SR-007's and Take T's, albeit for a brief time, I would rate them (from relative best to worst):
1. K1000
2. Take T (joint)
2. SR-007 (joint)
4. R10
5. L3000

K1000's are king IMHO, although I found the bass to be a little lacking, which is unsurprising really, considering their design.
The Take T's had more bass, but were less smooth in the mids and top.
SR-007's were smoother than the Take T's, but suffered from the same lacking bass as the K1000's. They were certainly more comfortable than the stock Take T's.
I wasn't particularly awed by either the R10's or L3k's, although maybe they would grow on me with time.

This is just my opinion of course, and I have yet to try the other HP's on the above lists.

The two that stand out far above everything else for me are the
Sony R10
Senn. HE90

the next level would be
L3000
HD650
K1000
HE60

HE90 / O2
R10 / L3000 / PS1
K1000

that would be a nice collection.

replace the L3000 with a balanced taket h2 and toss in an hp1000, I'd be set for life
